Okay, so are we in agreement that LP probably isn't the best place to retire in MD?

So where is the best place?

My first reaction is Deep Creek Lake area, but I'd have to think about it some more and might change my answer to Annapolis.

It may not be the best place, but I plan to retire to my 'trailer-hood' waterfront lot in Port Tobacco (living in a van, down by the river).
Will probably snowbird it South during the winter.

While its nice out there, beyond the lake and related summer entertainment, there isn't all too much going on. With retirement comes 'getting old', and for that access to good hospitals is a must. While Garrett is a good little hospital, its not comparable to the level of services you get in a place like Annapolis.

There is no good place to retire in Maryland. From my recent shopping around I can verify that assisted living facilities are about 70% more in MD that about 5 hrs away.

You are only an hour away from the WVU medical center in Garret County, it is an excellent hospital.

Not in Maryland. Retire in a tax, 2nd Amendment, friendly State, and vacation in your paid off, now a seasonal rental, previous primary home. Best of both worlds. Because though Maryland is a democratically, (KKK founding organization), controlled hell hole, politically, it is still a geographically wondrous State.

I think if your IP address showed you were in Fargo Minnesota it would tell you that Fargo was one of the top places. for <fill in the blank>
Plus I think they are like Yelp, if you pay for a review you write, it gets bumped up.

But who would pay to boost a review for LP ?

The way Kiplinger creates these ratings is through mindless data mining. Cost of real estate is this, ratio of population per doctor is that, average education etc. They run that query for every metropolitan statistical area (MSA) and create a 'rating'. When the algorithm spits out a zip code, they Google some facts and buy a stock photo.

I know for the most part it's stupid statistics, which people love to site, but don't actually reflect reality.
I do think governments "market" their area trying to attract investment and people to help stimulate the area.
According to the infamous "smart growth" plan (oxymoron) Lexington Park is THE center of St. Mary's County, it's the hub.
