Postbulletin.com: Roseville man throws himself into woodchipper - Fri, May 16, 2008

ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- Police say a man was severely injured when he threw himself into a woodchipper in Roseville.

Crews were clearing trees in a public area Thursday afternoon when the man appeared and jumped head first into the woodchipper. Workers turned off the machine and called 911, and the man was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries to his head and torso.

Police are calling it a suicide attempt and say the man is 19 to 21 years old.

Man, that takes some cajones.

It's really takes something to stab yourself. Throwing yourself into a wood chipper has to be worse though. This guy can't be too bright.

I am at a loss for words. I just can't imagine what could be going through someones mind to do this.

Maybe it was a tree hugger trying to get a little more intimate with the wood.

Maybe he wanted to feel more grounded.

Maybe he wanted to be a chip off the old block.

Maybe he was a failed lumberjack preserving his honor "by the sword".

Of course, the last thing to go through his mind was probably a blade.
