The Catholic Church Sucks!

That is not a religion - that is a cult.

My Church is not a cult and I resent that you would even insinuate that.

To whoever gave me red. Sad that you would give red just because a person has a differing opinion than yours. I'm not going around giving red just because I disagree with people here. Everyone is ALLOWED to have their own opinion, that's what makes the world an interesting place.

this is the Archdiocese of Washington's information on Child Protection, the policy of the Archdiocese, etc. Just in case anyone is interested.

Vrai, you are right - I'd like to say that the Church was wrong in how they handled the priests that molested those children. There is NO question about that. They screwed up BIG Time! Those priests hurt the hell out of those kids and destroyed their innocence. Those priests hurt the parents of those kids, and destroyed the faith of alot of their parishoners. Those priests hurt the Church. Those priests should have been held MUCH more accountable.

I just wish people could look at the HUGE amounts of good that the Catholic Church does all over the world, too. Everyone remembers "ah ####'s" but no one remembers "atta boys." My dad was right about that.

I won't turn my back on my Church in their time of need. I won't be a Catholic only when it is popular to be one. I am a Catholic for life, because I believe in the Profession of Faith and Catechism of the Church. To leave the Catholic faith, for me, is to leave God and I won't do it.

I honestly enjoyed this discussion (esp. you Vrai and Railroad). I like it when people make me think.

I'm Catholic, and I worked for the Catholic Church for about 4 years. Specifically, the USCCB. I could tell you stories that would blow your mind, and make you re-think your views. :bubble:

Why would you want to be a member of a church/organization that would kick you out for raising the flag on a child molester or criminal? If anything, I'd be packing my bags at the first sign that they were just going to ignore the issue.
I wouldn't. But, for Catholics raised as Catholics from birth, it must surely be ingrained into them that other religions, contending with the Church, and whatever things can get you excommunicated, put their salvation in peril. Nobody wants to go to hell. That fear factor would go a long way toward controlling the general populace within the Church.

I'm not Catholic, but attended local Catholic grade and high school. When I was in High School (graduated waaaaaay back in 87) the priest from our school was found out to be a molester. He just suddenly disappeared but there wasn't a lot of discussion about the issue or what the repricussions to him were. I feel that this is a siyuation that has been swept under the rug for years and years. Railroad is right, people who were raised in this faith are afraid to criticize the church out of fear in many cases. From almost 12 years of experience in their bschool system I will say that it would have been difficult to have gotten a better education and for that I will always be grateful....but a lot of their methods (school and church) involve the fear of not doing it their way.

You know, I don't get that feeling from the Church I go to. There's no "our way or the highway" attitude at all.

Of course, if I went in with "How to get an Abortion" literature, I'm sure someone would say something.

Isn't that what ALL religions are all about, in one form or another?

If you do that... or, if you don't do this, you won't get to heaven (or wherever).

All religions have their rules; I guess that's the fun in being atheist or agnostic.
