It never ceases to amaze me just how limited our kids' scope is, even though they think they know everything. Why is my daughter working in a restaurant in Lincoln, NE when she could be Cinderella aboard a Disney cruise ship with the same pay and better benefits???

Why do we settle for lives of mediocrity when there are so many fun things to do and be???

It's not that Larry and I have stifled our kids and encouraged them to take the safe route. When the aforementioned daughter came home from NYU with the one desire to get back to New York as soon as possible, I told her go. You don't need to be an NYU student to live in NYC and take advantage of the opportunities there. People leave their hometowns to take a bite of the Big Apple every day.

But she was scared, so she opted for Lincoln. Which has been good for her, and she likes her life, don't get me wrong. But how do you know if you're REALLY diggin' on your life if you've never experienced anything outside your comfort zone?

This train of throught was prompted by the Cruise thread - I got to surfing and now want to run away from home and be Julie from The Love Boat. And after all my kids are grown and gone, I just might.

Do you know that Larry has lived within 50 miles of his birth place for his whole entire life? That's amazing to me...I had lived in three different states by the time I was our youngest's age. And 6 different states by the time I was 23.

:high5: I've lived in 8 states in my life and have found something cool to enjoy about each of them. I can't imagine what my life would be like if I stayed in little 'ol Pottstown, PA forever. Every time I do go home, I run into the same people from high school, still doing the same things they were doing in high school, and it's kind of depressing. Then they ask where I am and what I'm doing, and all I hear is "Wow, you're so lucky!". I don't know how; all I did was opt to leave instead of stay, but I'm still working and parenting and paying bills like everyone else. I just make sure I'm having a lot of fun in the process. :yay:

Spent 20 + years in the Navy. Can't recall how many countries/islands I've seen. There's no place like the US, but I would go back to New Zealand in a heartbeat.

My father was not in the military, but I have lived in 8 different states, 14 different houses in 11 separate counties in all my years. As far as going outside the US, I've only been to Mexico and Canada. I've been on too many airplanes to count.

My loving husband, however, has been on 3 airplane trips in his life so far ( all during our marriage ) and lives only 1.5 hours away from where he grew up.

There are pros and cons to this. Being the one who has traveled, I would have preferred to grow up with friends/family around the corner.

Strange you know ... I just reconnected with an Uncle recently and he's chose to cease all contact. His bitter feelings towards his brother ( my father ) have cause him to do so I believe. After an e-mail of family ( my family not my dad ) halloween pictures he just lost it and started being very very nasty.

 His loss.

I live right next door to where I grew up  and have plenty of family right in my hood! I LOVE it, and wouldn't change it for the world!

But don't any of you have a dream job that you'd rather be doing than whatever you're doing now? If so, what is it? And what's stopping you from pursuing it?

I do... I want to become a certified fitness trainer. I would love to be able to focus the majority of my time and energy during the day working out and leading Body Pump classes and such. I can't persue this dream because I need a job with full medical benefits as I am the one carrying the insurance for my family. I would also have to take a 50% cut in pay and I wouldn't be able to afford to keep my kids in braces, do the summer vacations and insure and drive the vehicles I like on such a reduced pay scale...:ohwell:

You were not there (you dissed my invite) how do you know about that, mister...:banghead:
You would be surprised how many people "outted" your performance. And it wasn't a dissing it was taking care of a loved one.

There isn't anything out there that really grabs my attention. I enjoy what I do now, I have lots of room for advancement, but I wouldn't call it my dream job. I do think that Kwillia has an awesome dream job!!

This thread has inspired me. I just gave notice to my boss, called the realtor. Boy and I are moving to Oklahoma to be a father-son rodeo clown team :yahoo:

Happy Camper!
Ever since our vacation in June, my son has decided he wants to be a cruise director when he grows up. I think I may want to be one too if I ever grow up.

He and his friend that went with us play Royal Caribbean Singer and Dancers often:lol:

I think my dream job would be to own and opperate my own craft store. Sit around crafting all day, maybe give lessons to others ~ how fun is that.

Or maybe a travel agent ~ of course I'd have to spend the first 5 years doing fulltime on job training so I'd know where I was sending people too.

Did you watch the bull riding action yesterday? Better be light on those feet or you might have to explain another meaning of horny to the lad.
