goes to show ya....it's a small world :eyebrow:

That'd be 422 (if we're talking about the same highway). If you could see the two nuclear power plants steaming, you were in the right place.

No jokes from the peanut gallery about the power plants and my :twitch:. :nono:

I never even vacationed out of state of MD until 96' when the ex took me to PA for a week and then the following year we went to MO for a week. Now in the almost 6 years I've been with the man I've been to 3 different countries, numerous states and Islands, and lived out of state for a few years. I never knew what I was missing out on until I got a taste for it.

As far as careers go... I've always wanted to be an Art Curator at The National Gallery of Art in DC, but.... The money doesn't pay as well as it does in my current field and the drive to and from work every day would kill me. I am always envious of those who do what they love, but on the other hand even though I'm not doing what I love, I do like my current career field and the money and I'm just thankful to have a job to go to everyday.

Well, I just talked to my daughter and, after she stopped laughing, told me that she has no interest in being Cinderella on a cruise ship.

Stupid kid.

Social Hosts and Hostesses
As a member of the cruise staff, hosts and hostesses are constantly in the public eye and often serve as the mouthpiece for the ship. Duties can include greeting passengers as they board and disembark, assisting shore excursions staff, giving port talks, arranging parties and dinners, acting as master of ceremonies at selected events and introducing the Captain to passengers at the Captain's Ball. Occasionally the host/hostess will assist in the library. When applying for these positions, applicants should stress public relations experience or education in public relations. An outgoing personality is extremely important for this position as you are required to socialize with the passengers on a regular basis. Contracts are generally six months and pay is salary-based. This position reports to the Cruise Director or Assistant Cruise Director.
If I can moderate this forum, I can certainly be a social hostess on a cruise ship!

If I don't come back, you all will know where to find me - at sea, socializing with cruise ship passengers. :yay:

PS, I'm taking Jameo with me:

Photographer

The photographer is the "johnny on the spot" always around to take memorable photos of passengesr as they embark on the cruise as they depart to port, attend theme parties and formal events. The photographer catalogues the passenger's journey. In addition to snapping photos the photographer develops and sells the photographs to passengers. All photo equipment is usually provided by the cruise line.

Please archive her statement for when she's about 35, married (or divorced), and has a basketball team to put through college with no sight of freedom for another 15 years, minimum. :jet:

When I had decided to go to college I was going for Marine Biology and that was the only thing I had wanted to do since 10th grade.

Not sure how to quote one line but, my 7 yr. old up and told us the other day that he wanted to be a Marine Biologist! I almost fainted!! I didn't even know he knew what one of those was, much less that he wanted to be one.

Myself I want to be an IT proffesional. I work with computers all the time and started taking college courses to do it. But soon found out that I was not one of those people that could handle college, and 3 kids and a husband and household all at the same time. So I will wait until my kids are much older.

This train of throught was prompted by the Cruise thread - I got to surfing and now want to run away from home and be Julie from The Love Boat. And after all my kids are grown and gone, I just might.

I thought you wanted to be a waitress at Chubby's?

Unfortunately, what we want to do doesn't alway coincide with the ability to make a living. I'd love to have a job that allowed me to travel the world and see all the places I've only dreamed about. Heck, I might just say to hell with it all one day, sell my house and all my possessions, and do just that. :lmao:

If I could do anything I wanted to, I would work somewhere training tigers or just taking care of tigers, or really any large cat.

I used to think the most fun job in the world would be to be a writer. Until I talked to writers online who claimed they pretty much spent most of the day in front of a keyboard - "most" meaning, 14-18 hours. Typing and editing.

Then I thought, maybe, being a college professor. Until I worked for one - and he spent all his time doing research, occasionally taking the time to teach classes. The research however, was what kept him in his job. More *writing*, too.

For YEARS I thought the best job would be doing special effects in movies - you know, join Spielberg's DreamWorks studio or work on the set of sci-fi movies and shows. Of course, unless you're truly outstanding in the field, it pays weakly and there isn't always a lot of job security.

I guess I kind of figured what I needed to do was figure out how to enjoy what I'm already doing, because most jobs are done by people who think it sucks, SOMETIMES.
