The tax argument isn't for recent illegals, it's for established ones that have found "legitimate" work. It's funny, because they tout it as some virtue that an illegal is using a stolen social security number to pay taxes they won't get back (likely just FICA, it's easy to tell HR you have 10 exemptions for Fed/State taxes).

This - I don't understand. The argument implies there are tons of fake SSNs out there just for the taking, and using one isn't a problem. How do they get around the fact that it belongs FOR REAL to an actual person? That an SSN is also used as a legitimiate ID for lots of things?

They don't use a fake one, they use a real one. The SSA has long since been able to figure out your real income vs someone else using your number, so you only see your own reported income on your statements.

The illegals know it too. They will use the SSN for their job, but they won't use it to open a bank account or credit cards. That is a form of identity theft that actually gets investigated/punished.
