The Bible is based on history, recorded historical facts, and as much as we argue about the Bible, has anyone disproved the history of the bible? Jesus Christ was a real historical figure; the controversy comes when people debate whether or not he was the Son of God. ...
Most accept Jesus as historical fact. Muslims accept Him as a prophet but not the Son of God. Many others accept Him as a good moral teacher or philosopher.

I contend that Jesus is who He claims, God come as man, or a crazy person that died. If He is just a man who was crazy then how can He be a good moral teacher? If He is a good moral teacher, then I contend He is not crazy and is God come as man or the Son of God.

We all choose.

I choose Jesus as God come as man, Savior, and Lord.

You forgot the :sarcasm: smilie.

James Doohan said he was asked frequently how the warp drive worked. He would reply, "It's a television show." I remember an interview with William Shatner (I think) where he said someone asked how the sliding doors worked. He told them there was a guy on each door that pulled them open and closed them. I think I remember where Shatner was addressing a Trekkie convention and he lost it and told them all to get a life.
I just watched a show on the history channel the other day on the technology of Star Trek. Some of it is theoretically sound but out of reach for us. Nobody on the show thought it was real though.

No I didn't. I wasn't being sarcastic.
OK.Apparently there were Trekkies that got lost in space and thought that at least portions were real like the ship and warp drive an stuff.

I didn't say anyone on the show believed it was real. On the contrary, I said that certain of the cast, James Doohan and William Shatner (?), had to explain to some Trekkies that the warp engines were not real and the doors required manual assist. Those Trekkies were lost in the show and reality.

A classic from Shatner's appearance on "Saturday Night Live." I thought it was funny when Shatner's colleagues denounced the piece as rude, saying that he was insulting the people who made him a star.

I met a couple of Trekkies in college. It's not that they believe the show is real, although it certainly seems that way. My theory is that they believe the show is "more real" or has more meaning than real life. It's an obsessive type of escapism. They're frightened and/or confused by reality, so they crave alternate realities where the rules are clearly defined. I've seen the same behavior among hardcore fans in other genres: "X-Files," Tolkein, Anne McCaffrey.

Here's a link I posted in the "Under God" threat. It's an interview with Biblical scholar Bart Ehrman where he debunks much of "The Da Vinci Code":

http://www.beliefnet.com/story/167/story_16783.html

It's not true that before Constantine, Christians understood Jesus to be human but not divine. That's absolutely false. Most people thought Jesus was divine centuries before Constantine. Second, it's not true that Constantine decided which books to include in the New Testament; he had nothing to do with it. And the Council of Nicea didn't have anything to do with which books to include in the New Testament...

In a nutshell, the fallacy (of "The DaVinci Code") is thinking that these gospels give a more historically accurate view of Jesus than the New Testament gospels. I'm saying this not out of any religious conviction, but strictly on historical grounds—that statement is not true.

For me, the issue of which Gospels are historically accurate is interesting but ultimately irrelevant. I think the really relevant point is that the official and unofficial Gospels differ in their theologies, which is an entirely separate issue from historical accuracy. Because whether Jesus was human or divine can't be proven or disproven by historical records--it's all a matter of personal faith, in my view.

And as a Christian that believes in Christ I can completely understand your reasons behind your feelings.

take evolution for example. To completely believe that evolution came about in the scientific fashion that is taught, one must believe that from nothing can come something. also a strong faith needed for that one.

I think that none of the Gospels are historically accurate. They are way to vague to be taken as an historical document. There were some sects of Christianity before and after Constantine that did believe in Jesus as not divine, but that has more to do with who was spreading the early church. Paul propagated a divine Christ while in areas where the Apostle Thomas preached we see a human Jesus.

And where is the problem? Jesus is fully God and was fully human. That is why He understands our frailty and freely forgives us.

Thomas was the doubter, but believed Jesus is God after seeing Christ.

The Church I attend is studing the Da Vinci Code...we are actually using a book called Discussing the Da Vinci Code written by Lee Strobel & Garry Poole. Very interesting and helpful when people ask such things as Were eight different gospels contending for the New Testatment, Was Mary Magdalene really directed to lead the church, Does a secret society keep Jesus' bloodline hidden, etc. Again the best reference THE BIBLE!
