The Departed

A strange trend I've noticed... I recommend this film to friends of mine and many of them, more or less, say they'd see it if it weren't for Leonardo DiCaprio. Why is there such hate for this actor? Is it solely because of Titanic and the ensuing teenage girl following? In my opinion, he's a fantastic actor and has proven it again and again, from This Boy's Life to What's Eating Gilbert Grape to Titanic to The Aviator to The Departed to Blood Diamond. Perhaps the most unfairly loathed actor ever.

Dot, as one of those who really wouldn't pay to see Leo shot in the head, I'll give an explanation a try. To me, at least, there seems to be a false note in his acting when he is required to display the "gentle" emotions. The best example of this is a movie where he plays two completely disparate roles: "The Man in the Iron Mask"( I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MALKOVICH IN THAT MOVIE!!!) When he plays the real Louis I think he is excellent. When he attempts to play the captive brother, I just can't buy into his performance, because you can TELL that he's acting. And that movie is one of my all-time favorites for goose-bumps. The final charge, when the Captain of the Guard says: "What magnificent valor.", still gets the hair on my arms standing.

Loved this movie I have to say Departed is in my top 10. Even thought I like the movie. I wish the ending was different. I was actually rooting for Leonardo.. But if the ending was different I guess it would of change the dynamic of the movie... I give it :yay: :yay:

Good flick, I might even purchase it.

Dot, I agree that the ending in the abandoned building is powerful and although quite shocking I liked it greatly.

However, the very ending in the apartment I did not like. It seemed far to Hollywood cookie-cutter for me. Overall a good flick.:yay:

I loved this movie! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and would've been so mad if Matt Damon's character didn't get what was coming to him at the end.

I love this movie. I bought it the day it came out. My least favorite character is Jack Nicholson. He was too scruffy.

Of course you want the bad guy to get it in the end, Hollywood has brainwashed you into wanting that. It's the cookie-cutter Hollywood style for the bad guy to get his in the end. Maybe if it were a bit more creative I would have liked it more. However, it seemed quick and almost out of place the way it happened.

As a person who watches enough movies a week to make your head spin, The Departed offered that something that gives it an edge over most others.

I was held with anticipation, trying to predetermine the next move or scenario, if you will - and often suprised.

I really dig this flick and will probably watch it again sooner rather than later.
