The Duggars: 150 Thousand Haters and Counting
Though none go with me, I will still follow

Like the popular Duck Dynasty Robertson family (Sadie Robertson: It’s an ‘honor’ to be compared to the Duggar family), the Duggars stand for something unacceptable to the progressive left: undiluted devotion to God coupled with the ability to resist, and in fact push back against, the left’s biggest cultural weapons. They just don’t care if the world watches their TV show, and they just don’t care who hates them. I think that’s the most froth-producing, maddening thing of all to the left: that their collective venom, indignity, and accusations would just be ignored as if they don’t matter at all. The left cannot imagine a world where they and their beliefs don’t matter, and they fail to comprehend that the Duggars are not putting on an act—the irresistible force of their cultural change cannot be endured in their universe, where everyone must submit.

So far, 150,000 people have signed a change.org petition, asking TLC to:

End LGBTQ fear mongering by the Duggars. The Duggars have been using their fame to promote discrimination, hate, and fear-mongering against gays and transgendered people. You need to take a stand on the side of justice and cancel their show.

All this was over a single robocall that Michelle Duggar recorded opposing a proposed local ordinance in Fayetteville, Arkansas. ICYMI, the left considers Fayetteville, indeed the whole state of Arkansas, if they can find it on a map, part of the vast stretch of America between New York and Los Angeles known as “flyover country”. What happens in Fayetteville affects the average socialist in Berkeley about as much as Thomas Steyer sneezing affects Hobby Lobby sales.

“The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men – yes I said men – to use womens and girls restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. “

I don't get why the right doesn't fight back. I'd be happy to sign a petition, and I know many of my friends would as well if the petition were to support the Duggars right to free speech. When is that petition coming out?

Who would've guessed that this was another non-story put out by Redstate.com? More fodder for the stupid.

150,000 people have signed on on-line petition...wow.

By comparison, 10.3 million people have watched Dude Perfect hit a basketball shot at Texas A&M stadium. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W77uk1ejcpY

And what, half of those are you?

Actually, that number is considerable for a Change.org petition. Somewhere around that threshold is where people begin to take notice.

However I am noticing that you're dismissive of something if you can draw any attention to scale. You know, like more people watch Internet porn than vote Democrat. As long as the scale beats it, it somehow diminishes it.

What you're missing is just what you're missing in that thread about tax money wasted on making video games and that is - why is this happening at all? It doesn't matter that it was "only 10 million dollars". It's that money was wasted on something that never needed to be spent. 160 some thousand (at this writing) signed an online petition asking a network to cancel a show because someone said something they didn't like.

By comparison, suppose that many people signed a petition asking to shut YOU up?

It's not the scale - it's just hard to be believe that many people care about something so insignificant.

there was a article over the weekend, it took 3 months to get to 100k
it took a counter petition on a different site only took a day to get 50 k in favor of the TV show

Media Join Petition against ‘Fear Mongering’ Duggar Family
A petition battle begins over the Duggar family.

The media’s support doesn’t always guarantee Americans’ support – and the Duggar petition battle is the latest example.

A three-month-old Change.org petition demanding that TLC cancel its “19 Kids and Counting” show reached 100,000 signatures on Nov. 20. The petition called out the stars of the show, the Duggar family, for “LGBTQ fear mongering.” In response, LifeSite organized a petition to support the show on Nov. 20. After a day, that petition now boasts over 50,000 signatures. While TLC remained mum, the media chimed in on the “homophobic” family.

In his reasoning, the Change.org petition author, Jim Wissick, cited mom Michelle Duggar’s opposition to a transgender bill in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In a robo-call to residents in August, Duggar warned about the new law that would allow men to use women’s bathrooms, locker rooms and sleeping areas:

Petition supporting Duggars breaks 80,000 signatures in first day: growing fast

currently at 180k

Conservatives Rally to Defend Traditional Family; Will Media Notice?

Today, that petition has more than 180,000 signatures. Not only did it surpass the anti-Duggar petition in less than 72 hours, but it also exposed the hypocritical and often hateful treatment of Americans who hold traditional values.

In addition to signing the petition, thousands of grassroots Americans stood with the Duggars on Facebook and in our #DefendtheDuggars Tweetfest. Well-known traditional values supporters like Jason and David Benham -- whose TV show dedicated to helping the disadvantaged was axed because of their pro-life and pro-family values -- and former Fox News contributor Steven Crowder joined forces to ask the American people to keep the Duggars on-air.

Whether TLC cancels 19 Kids and Counting is up to the free market of ideas -- as it should be.All people have the right to voice their opinions. But recent years have seen a rise in efforts to use government to discriminate against some opinions through local, state, and federal laws, and labeling any opposition to their agenda as de facto "hate."
