The Dumbing of America

Yes, the stories are still there, but the editors feel that Americans would be more likely to pick up their mag if there was something about the bible on the cover, rather than a story about the Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan.

I hope the the Time editors are the dumb ones.
No, they are smart, they want to make a buck.

No, Afghanistan is slowly sliding back into Taliban mire that we thought we had got rid of. We devided our forces and attention to go fight a useless war in Iraq before setting things right in Afghanistan. What we're going to end up is with two big messes.

I think it's going like the US media says it's going - pretty well, all things considered.

Are you trying to say that George Bush controls the media in this country? Because I can turn on any new channel at random and show you that that cannot possibly be true. I can show you the NYT and WashPost on any given day to prove that Bush obviously doesn't control the media.

So, you're saying that it was about sales and not about trying to dumb down America. I'm glad that we were able to change your mind.

Hey, Frosty! Did you read the blog that accompanied your link? Did you notice the azzwipe who wrote this little snippet mentioned "...how American policy is failing in the country that actually attacked us on September 11,...."? Do you (like him) really think that Afghanistan attacked the U.S. on September 11? Do you know how to differentiate between liberal stupidity and just plan truth?

Who's the dummy?

Let me give you a hint. It's you!

EDIT hours later

Let's review.

TIME Magazine covers.

Asia: "Talibanistan"
South America: "Talibanistan"
Europe: "Talibanistan"
United States: " Why We Should Teach the Bible In Public Schools".

NEWSWEEK covers:

Europe: "Losing Afghanistan"
Latin America: "Losing Afghanistan"
Asia: "Losing Afghanistan"
United States: "My Life in Pictures"

So...how do you think things are going in Afghanistan? And why do you think "somebody" doesn't want us to know about it?

So, what about the ones I listed? I guess if you want to keep your narrow scope and not look at the other ones, that is up to you. I even showed a U.S. cover that specifically addressed issues with Afghanistan and did not make a world wide cover.

I have just uncovered another cover conspiracy...

Here is the cover for the current issue of Newsweek;
Here are the current international covers.

Why are they hiding this information?! :jameo:

I think you, forest, are seeing this as a big deal because you are one of the few that looks at a cover, forms an opinion yet never goes in depth and moves on. Fortunately, most of us care to know what is actually going on and don't settle for such a superficial fly-by.

I agree with forest and Kerad to a point. It's not a partisan agenda. The media in general cares more about entertainment news and celebirty gossip and stuff like that.

Today, I turned on MSNBC and they had a special report about "Decision 2008." :jameo:

Since nothing really matters until summer, that's when I'll find out what they think. Then in January, I'll watch again and see who stands where - it's NOT IMPORTANT to me, and it's all very repetitive. In that entire hour, not one single mention of the Iraq violence or anything else. Finally, I lost it and turned on ESPN.

The American doesn't care about the international news, because there's money to be made in covering the elections and celebirty gossip.

I got news for you. We can't pay the bill it takes to stay the decades it would take to fix things.

Republicans will withdraw their support for the Iraq war come August if sure signs of progress have not been made.

This morning on the Chris Matthews Show, NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell revealed that Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, met “very recently” with the Senate Republican caucus to discuss their strategy on Iraq legislation.

“Petraeus went to the Republican caucus and told them, I will have real progress to you by August,” Mitchell said. The Republicans claim they told him that after August, they will end their support for the war. “They have told him at a caucus meeting as very, very recently, that if there isn’t progress by August — and real progress means not a day of violence and a day of sanity — that they will pull the plug.”

First day of psychiatry in med school the entire lecture deals with how deeply rooted a schizophrenic's delusions are. You cannot get a moonbat to release his delusions, you can only continue to point out his contradictions from the real world.

Frosty is a classic. That's why we all have so much fun with his posts.

Too bad he's such a...

Well, if you don't give them food, they'll kill you for it.

Take your pick.

:lmao: Excellent. Another classic line.

Such is the society created by Liberals who go to great lengths to not offend anyone, won't hold people accountable for their actions and absolutely under no circumstances is one allowed to defend themself and their family should one of these cretins violate their privacy.

"Oh, just give it to them and maybe they'll leave us alone as we cower in the corner..."

But hey, that's not a new claim from you, is it forestal?

If you want to starve people into a corner, they will do what needs to be done to survive, including killing you for a hamburger.

Strange how you take people starving allllll the way to killing people when most people would avoid starvation by getting a job.

Yes, this is true... I personally starve numerous people everyday.

So you're relegating the poor to being savage, deadly beasts who act impulsively without thought or remorse. Interesting.

By the way, Saddam starved thousands... but you think he should have been left alone. How is that?
