The frantic first days of school...

Not only do I bust my leg up but today...

MY 4 year old was placed on the wrong bus and then dropped off at the end of our busy street to walk home alone. Had I not taken off of work today and happened to be home putting my mom's birthday cake in the house, he would have come home to locked doors and no supervision.

:tantrum:

4 year olds are not to be let off of busses without the presence of an adult at the stop to receive them.

Not only that, but it was not even the right bus:!*(@$(#@*$@#$#:

After 7 phone calls and teary eyed rants to several county employees and my daycare.. I find out that 6 kids were placed on the wrong bus, the driver said it wouldn't be a problem to drop them off at the day care(all the same day care), the driver then drops my son off ALONE at the end of my street and the other children wind up BACK AT SCHOOL?????!?!?!?!!?!?!?

OH yes, I hate bus drivers to begin with. I almost always drive my daughter to school.... I was promised it would not happen again. I want that drivers head on a stick.
Tomorrow, I'll be at the bus stop, just in case.

I had a bus driver look me in the eye today, while I was on the bike, and pull out in front of me. How rude. Had another one do it to me in my car on Route 4 during their "practice" on Monday. She headed north in the southbound lane on Route 4 for a few seconds, turning off Indian Bridge Road.

I only say I hate bus drivers because this is the third time I've had trouble with them over the years. At my old house, we lost our good bus driver because she was writing up to many unruly kids:rolleyes:, she was replaced by a MANIAC who lives somewhere near Thompson's Orchard :ahem:. This fruit hit curbs, took out tree branches and chastised and poked at a poor 5 year old in front of us so badly one day that he cried until he pee'd his pants. I've almost always driven my daughter to school because of this. Plus, I don't live in the best neighborhood, so I like it that my kids can go to and from school through the day care. I LOVE my daycare, they have the bestest, most attentive and sweet people and I'd never send my kids anywhere else.:)lol: I know who reads this stuff)

I have to say I miss Miss Rebecca, Miss Kathy, and Miss Kim for my bus driver!! :huggy:

I have the driver narrowed down to two people by way of my son's description and the list sent home from school. I"ll be down at the lake if I ever get a'hold of him:boxing:

There is no excuse for dropping off a 4 year old child all alone at a bus stop! Legally we can't leave our kids alone until they are 8 (correct me if I am wrong, but I think that's the age), so the same should apply for anyone leaving any child all alone and unsupervised. It boggles the mind!

I know just how you feel since this happened to our son when he was six years old and in his first week of 1st grade, they had let out school early because of hot weather (this was back in the day when the schools would get out early if it got to be 90 degrees or hotter...but being new to the school system we didn't know this, especially since our school had central air). My husband and I had gone out to lunch for our anniversary, and had no clue that school was letting out early. Of course there were no phone calls letting anyone know this was happening.

So we got home about an hour after our son was found screaming and crying on the front porch by a neighbor, thank God it was a neighbor we knew and trusted. We flipped out and of course all kinds of excuses were made for the situation by the principal...."it was announced on the radio" (we weren't listening to the radio), "the bus driver would have had to bring him back to the school" (HELLO! We would have preferred that!), "we couldn't make that many phone calls" (how about calling parents of the kids under 8 years old? at least making an effort?) Excuse after excuse. It gave me the willies knowing that anything could have happened to our son if not for our neighbor being there.

Now my daughter's bus driver, the wonderful, wonderful Miss Debbie, would not drop my daughter off alone ever....all the way through the fifth grade. She certainly did not have to do this, but she did it because she actually cares about the kids on her bus. There was always someone out there for my daughter (my son, a teenage neighbor, or me), but the couple of times no one was there for her, Miss Debbie actually took her with her to drop off the rest of the kids, and then brought her back....I'm telling you, she was an absolute angel. Of course I didn't expect her to do this, but I was ever so grateful that she did.

You have every right to be angry! Thank goodness your little one is okay! :huggy:

I sat with my son today and talked to him about it. I"ll be reminding him frequently what to do in case he ever finds himself in a situation like that. I pointed out that he should never go to the road and never in to the woods, I showed him who's house I felt might be best for him to go to. I have some fruity neighbors, but there are a few folks whom I feel would take him up immediatly.
I'm just so glad I was home, my oldest knows the deal but he is my BABY and I'm still a little shook up over it.

NOT Politically Correct!!
Only my wife or I drop off and pick up our daughter, our daughter never has and never will step foot on a school bus...

But is this really so bad considering you were probably only going about 15... maybe 25 mph...

:ohwell: Someone took it personally and bloodied up my karma with a comment about my getting a bus drivers job and seeing how easy it is. Come on people, we are talking about a basic rule, no one under 5 is ti get off of the bus without there being a responsible adult present. I took extra measures to make sure my son got where he needed to be. He DOES NOT look old enough to be let off a bus unattended, so karma giver, you can STFU. I never said it was easy transporting dozens of kids to and from school, but I was told at least a dozen times this week that I would have no worries about my 4 year old riding the bus.
I don't imagine the 4 phones calls I got yesterday would indicate that the driver was at fault. The guy from transportation assured me that this was the drivers HUGE mistake and that something will be done, on his on account and not at my insistance.

I'm so sorry that you both had to go through that. Your son must have been so scared. I have a 4 yr old and I can just imagine how scared he was and how angry that you are. I hope the bus company takes care of the situation and it doesn't happen again.:huggy:

How come this stuff happens every year here? When (and where) I was in school stuff like this never happened. The bus always stopped where it was supposed to etc. Why are bus drivers here so inept?
