The GOP's coronavirus relief package is a dream for big corporations and a nightmare for struggling Americans

I said this to spitball a week ago, the Fed should send money Unemployment Insurance Funds at the state level, and up the amount that can be drawn - more akin to full pay, instead of half pay, so the people most affected can survive .... not giving $ 2000 buck to people that do not need it

... enough with the corp welfare ... the likes of Boeing do not need bailouts ... let the stock holders suck it up for a change, the CEOS can take a pay cut for a change

Sure Gurps we can just go back to working on the farm when this is over.

Also what the actual EFF does solar tax credits and eliminating student debt have to do with businesses closing and people losing their jobs. Why are Senate Dems taking marching orders from Nancy Pelosi? Why does PPAC need more money?

The Dems are playing with fire here. So long as it isn't corporate welfare I would prioritize funding companies first, then individuals. Funding individuals directly isn't synergistic; funding companies is. Not against checks to individuals, but what the Dems are saying in rejecting the package is disingenuous.

The Dems posturing at this point in time and for what they are advocating is bald-faced partisanship. It may work. Sure hope people are smart enough come November to make them pay, though. Shameful.

From your opinion piece, this paragraph makes no sense...

According to a bill released on Thursday, Republicans are talking about prioritizing money for "taxpayers" (by which they mean only income tax, not things like sales tax that all Americans pay). Under this plan, Americans who make less than $75,000 would get up to $1,200, while poor families who pay less in taxes would get $600.

If you make less than $75,000 you will get $1,200. If you pay less in taxes, you probably make less than $75,000 - which means you will get the $1,200.

The new house bill, excuse me Nancy Pelosi's bill is 1400 pages long and will be introduced this afternoon. We're going to have to pass it to know what's in it.
Bails out the post office.
Changes provisions for early voting.
Demands pay equity.
Allows grants to audit election results. (In an election year, Hmmm.) Stacy Abrams will head this part up personally.

So let's not run around with opinion pieces and claim them as God's truth on Earth. M'kay?

I am totally against any kind of bailout assistance at all for the cruise industry. For instance Disney cruise lines are flagged in the Bahamas, Celebrity is flagged in Malta, and Carnival is flagged in Panama. I don't feel they deserve to be bailed out by America. tax payers let the country they are flagged under bail them out.

Me..I'm just sitting here wondering why so many apparently sane people appear to believe that a $1200 tax credit or cash payment would amount to - or accomplish - zippy squat to most middle-income Americans.

OTH....continuing to receive their $1200/week paycheck..yeah..that's a big deal.

I also don't feel like the bailout should apply to casino corporations. They have been making money hands over fists at the cost of their customers, especially with all the additional fees they have been charging their customers.

Art Laffer (a person I find interesting and worth listening to; though many will disagree with me) just finished up on Fox News. He wasn't thrilled with all the things in the relief bill and glad it wasn't passed. Said it was too complicated; too much fluff. He wants solely payroll tax cuts and liquidity lending. If I understand what this means I agree.

Not that I am surprised, but apparently the Repubs hands - while not as dirty as the Dems - are in serious need of hand sanitizer, as well. He had excellent things to say about the White House approach and Trump's performance so far.

So let me say this to both parties: stop with the pork. NOW! Simple relief to companies so they can meet payroll and to individuals who aren't immediately able to resume their jobs.

Any money received will be part of next year's taxes. You will pay some back.

Exactly. In the case of my company, an easy/quick bridge loan is all we need to remain healthy. We have a lot of equity in a system ready to ship overseas (but now, for the time being, can't be) and the one following it that we can't build on schedule without the income received from the one preceding it. Dirt simple cash flow maffs.

How to fight Wuhan Virus:

Racial diversity on corporate boards
Emissions standards for airlines
Student debt forgiveness ($10,000)
Windmills!
Increased usage of minority owned banks
$35MM for the Kennedy Center

Soooo I guess that leaves the "slush fund" as a non starter for not passing the ORIGINAL, BIPARTISAN bill.
