The Largest Tax Increase in U.S. History

With average gas prices across the country approaching $4 a gallon, it may be hard to believe, but the U.S. Senate is considering legislation this week that will further drive up the cost at the pump.

The Senate is debating a global warming bill that will create the largest expansion of the federal government since FDR's New Deal, complete with a brand new, unelected bureaucracy. The Lieberman-Warner bill (America's Climate Security Act) represents the largest tax increase in U.S. history and the biggest pork bill ever contemplated with trillions of dollars in giveaways. Well-heeled lobbyists are already plotting how to divide up the federal largesse. The handouts offered by the sponsors of this bill come straight from the pockets of families and workers in the form of lost jobs, higher gas, power and heating bills, and more expensive consumer goods.

Various analyses show that Lieberman-Warner would result in higher prices at the gas pump, between 41 cents and $1 per gallon by 2030. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says Lieberman-Warner would effectively raise taxes on Americans by more than $1 trillion over the next 10 years. The federal Energy Information Administration says the bill would result in a 9.5% drop in manufacturing output and higher energy costs. LINK

If this passes it might just be time to buy that hybid afterall...or maybe a horse and carriage. Here is a little more on the beneficiaries of this massive new tax.

Listening to Fox News on the way home, Warner and Lieberman addressed these concerns. They said there will be no impact until 2012. They also said that the President will have the authority to suspend the bill if it ends up causing excessive hardship.

The senate doesn't represent you. They represent the groups that want to spend the money you earn

Ms. Boxer expects to scoop up auction revenues of some $3.32 trillion by 2050. Yes, that's trillion. Her friends in Congress are already salivating over this new pot of gold. The way Congress works, the most vicious floor fights won't be over whether this is a useful tax to create, but over who gets what portion of the spoils. In a conference call with reporters last Thursday, Massachusetts Senator John Kerry explained that he was disturbed by the effects of global warming on "crustaceans" and so would be pursuing changes to ensure that New England lobsters benefit from some of the loot.

I liked this bit from the second link.

This doesnt surprise me in the least. These Lords of politics dont give a chit about us poor pawns. All they care about are the Bishops, Knights, Rooks , Kings & Queens of this chess set.

Pawns are as expendable as the paltry few dollars they earn.

I can see President Obama suspending a tax now. LMAO.

A Global warming measure my azz ,its another way to steal from the American public.

Kind of reminds me of the Roman senators buying off the rabble with bread and circuses though in this case it's food stamps and section 8 housing...

These friggin people are destroying us .

Obama and the Democrats keep promising to raise taxes, destroy the military, create socialist health plans that will destroy health care in America , They promise to create green programs that will send manufacturers to third world countries, they plan to place a carbon credit tax on everything we do. Obama says we cant drive what we want and we have to stop eating as much as we want. We have people in this country who dont have jobs and they want us to literally supply every azzhole in mexico with a job.

We all see that and yet IDIOTS will vote Democrat in this election.

When are we all going to quit the bickering and realize that moving away from fossil fuels is essential to our country's long term financial security (as well as national security)?

70% of the worlds oil reserves are under the control of state run companies now. We don't need to be kow-towing to the tyrants that run those countries. We're still going to need oil, but the less we use, the less money ends up in Russia, Venezuela, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc.

I believe we all realise that oil is not infinite.
The argument is about what to do in the meantime.

It seems our government favors bankruptcy above drilling for oil that is still there.

Yes: All of the Green solutions sound very good, but most are either non-existent or in their infancy and not econimically feasible at this time.

Meanwhile the world has to keep turning and we arent getting much help here.
