A Southern California mayor said he wants to eliminate his city's homeless population by "giving them all the fentanyl they want," a controversial comment he doubled down on by saying he supports a federal "purge" of homeless people.

Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris, a Republican, made the comments during a city council meeting on Feb. 25 when a resident questioned him about the city’s plan to address the homeless crisis by "enclosing" the homeless population in a single encampment in an abandoned golf course near a residential neighborhood.

"What I want to do is give them free fentanyl. That’s what I want to do," Parris responded.

Well, really, at what point do we stop trying to parent adults who can't stop making poor decisions with their life? Why would we try to save them when they have no interest in saving themselves? You'd think Democrats would be cheering this because hasn't that been their policy for two generations? Leave these people alone, they're not hurting anyone, and stop with the war on drugs?

I refused to keep Narcan in my house for a family member. As a result, he did all his ODing elsewhere, where he could be assured of being "helped".

Made some friends and family crazy that I wouldn't "support" his "problem".

F'em.

Holy cow.

See, my weirdo family would come up with something like this but they'd never ask me to participate because they know I'd refuse. I'm judgey and intolerant about people trying to kill themselves at my house.

They give them free needles ( you know, so they dont share diseases), why not give them the needles pre-filled?

I have a lot of trouble finding empathy for people who use fentanyl ,Cocaine or heroin.
They were warned and didn't listen. They destroy themselves and their families and place a burden on society.

I have some empathy for people who got hooked by Doctors or because of some illness.

Now saying that. If i were told I was terminal and in my last stages I would go for it. Why not.? Why beg some Doctor for narcotics for pain when you can get it over the counter so to speak, and if I overdose just leave me the F alone.

Point #1: Why is it that people are OK with giving these losers free recreational drugs BUT.. heaven forbid we give free insulin to diabetics or free cancer meds to pediatric patients?
Point #2: I think every VERIFIED fentanyl, oxy, etc. abuser should get a "Recovery Card" that they MUST keep with them at all times. Every Narcan recovery received, you get a corner punched on the card. All four corners punched and you OD'd... Sorry. BYE! Don't have your card and OD'd... Sorry. BYE! Want a NEW card? Gotta attend and complete an intensive rehab program.

In order to save time and effort we will prepare syringes with fentanyl strong enough to satisfy 50 people for free. Narcan is available for $10,000 per dose, cash. Be sure to share that syringe. Enjoy.

Good question. We can "afford" to send billions to Ukraine and fund transgender mice in Guatemala, but we "can't afford" to help out Americans who need things.

But the difference between giving druggies freebies and giving people with a medical condition medication is....one of those groups, we're not helping them to live, so the drugs would have an end date.

Could you expound on this? I don't see the point you are making. Wouldn't BOTH groups eventually pass away thus having an "end date." Unless there is a cure for diabetes/cancer AND magically, there was no more drug abuse, wouldn't there be an endless supply of "customers?"

Well, one group you're trying to help them stay alive....the other, you're trying to kill them off ASAP.

If it were up to me we'd pay for a lot more medical stuff than we do. Especially now that I see how much money the government wastes and steals. So why can't we have low cost health care for Americans? Because our elected officials are effing crooks.

Huh???

Group 1: Drug abusers. Trying to keep alive with Narcan
Group 2: Diabetics/Pediatric Cancer patients. Trying to keep them alive with Insulin/Cancer drugs.

Who of these 2 groups are we "trying to kill off ASAP?"

EDIT: By Diabetics, I mean Type 1

No. We're not talking about Narcan, or at least I'm not. The topic is giving druggies free drugs to expedite their demise.

The problem is finding bystanders and responders that will abide with that.
Most will not.

I was one of those people who would have been affected, as I've said elsewhere on these forums.

My recommendation is to screen people for suitability for rehab. Give them one chance, and one chance only. If not, well.... :sshrug:

I'm a fan of trying rehab first before letting them drug themselves to death. The thing is, an addict once told me that some of these drugs mess with your brain chemistry permanently, so rehab isn't going to take because they no longer have their wits about them and never will again.

It's a shame people do this crap in the first place.

Narcan is $10k? I bought some "for a friend" that was under $30.
