nope looks like your boy had something to drink:

Driver Toxicology
Post mortem toxicological analysis of blood obtained from Scott Kalitta during his autopsy revealed the presence of Ethanol at a level of 23 mg/dL. This level converts to a BAC percentage of .02% BAC. This level, 25% of the legal limit for intoxication in the State of New Jersey, remains in violation of NHRA rules (Section 1.7, I., B.1.) as well as N.J.S.A. Title 13 Chapter 62 New Jersey State Motor Vehicle Racetrack Regulations.

I highly doubt the minute amount of alcohol in his system caused the engine to explode. Accident plain and simple.

...alcohol is a side note; simply part of the report other than to note that NHRA doesn't allow drinking and driving.

The larger point is that running into the cherry picker is what killed him.

turns out that a democrate decided where to place the cherry picker, and since Obama hasn't come out saying it was wrong, it's barry fault

...is this your new hobby? Interjecting politics into everything without even being humorous, quick witted or amusing?

This will simply not do.

Good read. HOpefully things can be learned from this accident and one way or another, the NHRA can return to the quarter mile.

This certainly explains why ESPN didn't release top-end video, doesn't it? :coffee:

The 1,000' thing is ridiculous. :duh:

Mike Dunn said it best: "I'm sure Wally Parks is rolling around in his grave right now."

:dork:

You're an idiot. :duh:

It doesn't matter what his BAC was. There was nothing that could be done. The clutch failed, the brakes were pushed to the floorboard and failed and the parachutes failed. The engine blew up and he ran into an ESPN camera truck all in less than 15 seconds.

There was nothing that could done in this instance. The alcohol didn't make the engine blow up. It's just something some pencil pusher had to put in their to push an agenda.

.02%, that could've been from cough medicene.

What happened to Scott Kalitta was tragic. What happened to Eric Medlin was also tragic. Unfortunatly, he was just testing his funny car when his incident occured and the speed wasn't a factor.

The nature of the beast, which in any kind of racing, brings with it dangers that are known to those that participate. I was at Aquasco Speedway many, many years ago when Tex Randall was killed while driving his Top Fuel Dragster. It was caused by mechanical failure, but that didn't make it any less horrific.

As stated in a previous thread about the Scott Kalitta incident, until all NHRA tracks that hold national events have proper shut down areas to make it safer, they will continue to run 1,000 feet. I don't like it anymore than the next guy, but safety has to come first.

Just a word. Have you ever looked at the end of the track at MIR. Thats right, Its rt. 234.
Have you ever been to MIR?

There is a 150+ foot sand pit, a couple of nets and water barrells there to stop the car.

That's more than Englishtown had (other than the whole concrete wall and cherry picker camera things).

Englishtown CAN'T expand it's shutdown length.

There are only two other options: Slow them down or get rid of E'town, Pacific Raceways and Pomona.

It'll be a cold, frosty day in hell before NHRA drops Pomona Raceway and Old Bridge Township Raceway Park from the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule.

There are ways to slow them down though. Limit the nitro teams to one blower. Mandate fireproof parachutes.

What happened with Kalitta, anything that could've gone wrong basically did.

I agree with all of the above. The bad thing is..... that's why they'll continue at 1,000 feet.
