Oh, my youngest, however, was a hard leftist even looked the part. :( But within the last 2 years, as he is approaching 25, he has completely changed his mind and his look. He left the Democratic party and is now a Libertarian. Experience teaches valuable lessons. :yay:

I would say so... I went through that leftist leaning stage but once you put your boots in the rink, especially what I did for nearly 2-decades, you realize why that sort of intervention is a very bad idea.

It's an old turn of the phrase from Irving Kristol, but it neatly summarizes the differences between the two.
As I've mentioned by quoting Sewell, liberals are idealists - that's their attraction, and the source of their appeal to youth.
But once reality hits, many of them realize - ideology doesn't square well with reality. Conservatives are all over the place, but they tend to be pragmatists. It's the biggest reason I know that they oppose a lot of government programs which have shown to accomplish damned near nothing in decades. Most people I know will say they're social liberals and financial conservatives. That's on both sides of the aisle.
