Bann, check with USAA. When our son was at boot camp, GEICO changed his status to a "sometime" (can't remember the real term) driver and it reduced the premium a lot. I think most insurance companies do this for folks in the military (while at boot camp/deployed, etc.). At least, it was that way back in 2006.

:yay: Will do! I figure they would probably do something like this. I was at work yesterday when I called, so I only really had time to get his name added and didn't even ask about that. I was on hold for 10 minutes waiting to get through and then passed on to someone else because that agent's computer was "down" & waited another 5 minutes! :cds: I'll call when I have more time to sit on hold.

Update:

He's been driving all over the place since Saturday. Last night I had a booster parents' meeting and he drove to that, so he also got to drive home in the dark. THAT went surprisingly well. Of course, it was 10 minutes from home.

He's keeping the logbook - I'm confident he's not cheating, but I'm going to check it about once a week anyway. I don't have time to keep the darn thing! :lmao:

Bann, he is a very level headed young man and is very aware of his surroundings (eg. deer) Unlike many people his age, I think he has a lot of respect for the vehicle he is driving and is looking forward to being a responsible driver.
I suspect most people his age are seeing getting their license as a way to PARTY, speed, show off in front of their friends and pick up chicks.

:huggy: That is so nice of you - thank you for saying that!

I growed him up to be a nice, decent & responsible individual as well as an independent thinker who is able to stand on his own two feet and handle himself in the adult world.

I know I've done a good job and that's the goal of every good parent, but everything from here on out for the next year or so is a milestone moment & I am gonna have to buy stock in Kleenex to get through it all! :bawl:

:jet:

I was afraid I would have no patience for it, but I must say I have handled it pretty darn well!

(except for this tic I seem to have developed) :twitch:

Neighbors son, one of my son's good friends did that, showed no interest at all in driving. Drove his parents crazy, either they or one of his friends had to drive him everywhere. Don't think he got his license till 18 and now loves it.

I did that with kid 1 but bought her a bike. :D.
