Things You Miss

Sneakers

Just sneakin' around....
Fresh rolls. Harris Teeter had Kaiser and club rolls in a bin, took what you wanted. If you were there early, they were fresh, smelled great, tasted great. Now it's all pre-packaged, mass produced crap that's stale when you get it. Just made a cold cut sammich on a club roll, and the roll was dry and tasteless. Ruint my sammich. Going to have to try the 'bake your own' club rolls.

What do you miss?

The grocery stores where we've been are still doing fresh bakery items, but they individually package them so you don't have every booger finger and butt picker in town digging through your rolls and donuts.

I could absolutely deal with that. I could also see having an attendant use a pair of tongs to drop fresh made stuff in a bag for you. They do it for cold cuts, deli salads, etc.

The hypocrisy gets more absurd by the day.

I miss being treated like a normal human being instead of a leper!

On that note, I miss interacting normally with other people without having to gauge their level of COVID paranoia. Fortunately there isn't too much of that in the places we go to, and I've learned to completely avoid anyone wearing a mask outside. If they speak to me, I ignore them and keep moving. The freakout people also give themselves away with their darting fearful eyes, making sure no one is getting within 6 feet of them. They skitter like mice.

I'm trying to be respectful of others but they're testing my patience big time.

I've never really enjoyed being in a large group with people crowding me, even before the chinese flu. Avoiding intrusions into my personal space is normal for me. Not paranoid about it, just prefer not being in a crowd. I wouldn't be giving anyone dirty looks, I would adjust to stay away. Dad would tell me my rights end where someone else's rights begin.

Speaking of crowds. Remember the B-52's concert? The drunk chick that kept falling back on me? 😂

Being out listening to music in a public place, and being allowed to DANCE with your significant other/date/partner

OR while at a public place, to walk to the bathroom wiithout a mask, OR visit another table and stand there to talk to them.

Harris Teeter now has the fresh bagels and donuts individually placed in containers in the same glass door cabinet they use to be in.

While I did get stuff from there I always was worried about someone's shitty hand having touched my bagel.

Though I try to support local farmers, I don't always have the chance to go to farm stands. I miss having good, fresh produce that actually has flavor! Especially fruit. The only good fruit I have gotten in the past few months are some cherries and grapes.

Having come from Wegmans territory, no stores around here even compare with their produce areas. Most people don't know that the Wegmans family were actually farmers that started with produce stands (many, many years ago). They still support locally grown foods as well.

If my property weren't so heavily wooded, I would grow my own food.

I miss Publix grocery stores (none in location now) love their baked goods, produce, layout, easy in and out and service.

Sneakers, you would love their rolls, baked fresh every morning.

I loved Publix when I lived in FL. Still not Wegmans, though!

I'd be happy if we had a real bakery here. And the place in Wildewood doesn't count.

It's been a crazy growing year. Wife hasn't found any bell peppers or green beans at the farm stands.
