Thinking About Dog Food

I've been trying out some different dry dog foods with my German Shepherd. Our old German Shepherd wouldn't eat anything but the Old Roy in the red bag from WalMart. My wife recently bought a bag of Kibbles And Bits, and I bought a bag of Pedigree, and the dog doesn't like either. What bothers me is that this same dog can't pass by a turd without eating it, so how is it that teams of pet food engineers can develop a food for dogs that apparently tastes worse that sh1t???

When switching foods try it gradually - start by having 90% old food with 10% new food. If he is a picky eater leave it like that for a week if neccessary, then decrease the ratio of old and increase the new over a period of a few weeks. This is better for some dogs' systems so they can adjust. Don't try to cold turkey switch him to different food if he is so discerning. For flavor try adding some turds (NOT - just joking!!!)

Why the change?
Changing dog food sometimes results in gastic distress, gas and "not eating'..
Ifn it ain't-well you know the rest. :yay: Good luck!

We've never had this issue with our dog. We started feeding him "Chicken Soup" brand, and he's always loved it. He does have strange taste though. He refuses (actually, barks at) any raw chicken bones, and turns his nose at liver, which is almost unheard of. At any rate, good luck.

Let me tell you something! If they made turd-flavored dog food, one would probably lick the bowl (she likes a CLEAN anus :barf:) and the other would NOT be on the same floor!

We can tell when Emma has been being hygienic :barf: by her breath a mile away :dead:

Meanwhile, Lily won't even touch a ball that goes within inches of her own pile (say, she has to go, but has a ball in her mouth.... drops the ball where she is... goes... WILL NOT TOUCH THAT BALL AGAIN....)

These two are so food spoiled that even the neighbor was mifted when he went out and bought generic treats for all the dogs in the hood... Gave it to one of the princesses and she spit it out....

Even with their treats, they are picky.... Baked goods from the treat bar at PetCo... Old Mother Hubbard... Jumbones...

I just lay out a few and let them pick which one they want... :drama:

I'd say though, I prefer that over poop eating any day! :lmao:

I've heard that if a dog is eating poop, it's because of a vitamin/protein deficiency.

I recommend NOT using Ol' Roy. I used to feed that to my dog (when I had one) and he came up with something called 'hot spots'. The vet immediately asked me what type of food I was feeding him. They said his hot spot was more than likely caused by the food I was feeding him. I switched him to Iams and he never had that problem again.

Saving money on your pet's food isn't always the best for your dog.

:yeahthat: Really... In all seriousness, any improvement is a start... Your vet should also have some powder that you can sprinkle on his food that will make his excrement undesirable (don't ask me, I don't know)...

There are already a buttload :heehee: of threads on dog food recommendations; choose your own... Just go somewhere where it is readily available, if you can - it'll make it easier to stick to the change.

Your pup deserves to have a healthy diet. Feeding him poor food choices is equivalent to giving him a diet of cheese puffs and sodas to live on for a kid..

He needs nutrition, AND to stop eating his crap...

Always fed my GSD Iams dry and Pedigree canned. Never had any food related problems unless he got into the trash while we were out or something.

You all may remember ALL THE ISSUES I've had w/my Rescued Rat Terrier...she has ALOT OF FOOD ALLERGIES and is very picky! I finally found a Venison kibble that she'll do back flips over! NO more itches or tummy problems for her! She's doing wonderful!

Saving money wasn't the issue. The issue was that it didn't matter what other food we tried, he wouldn't eat it. He would go for three to four days without touching a bowl with anyhting but that Old Roy in it. Maybe Old Roy tastes like ####.

Adolphs Meat Tenderizer sprinkled on cat food will keep the dog from raiding the litter box. :yay:
