Stop Using Ol Roy

I just got home from the vet hospital with my dog! She has bladder stones.According to vet,Ol roy is bottom of the line and doesn't contain enough vitamins and minerals to keep the dogs system healthy. So now, i have to pray that a diet change with fix the problem,,if not, I am looking at a surgery for the dog.

Hey BB sorry to read about your gals bladder stones!
Are you sure the vet didn't say "silicate stones"? I have 2 Shepherds I rescued, both had silicate stones. Believe it or not these are fairly common, especially with dogs on diets that have a large amount of corn gluten or soybean hulls. Some Shepherds are predisposed to these. Diets with animal-based protein sources are important in maintaining an acidic pH.
Just a suggestion-don't keep your dog confined, allow access for urination at all times or as frequently as possible.

(On a consumer 1-10 rating scale-Old Roy got a 2) Old Roy Lamb & Rice is the best choice if any, when it come to Old Roy products-IMHO.

Keep us posted!

I've been trying out some different dry dog foods with my German Shepherd. Our old German Shepherd wouldn't eat anything but the Old Roy in the red bag from WalMart. My wife recently bought a bag of Kibbles And Bits, and I bought a bag of Pedigree, and the dog doesn't like either. What bothers me is that this same dog can't pass by a turd without eating it, so how is it that teams of pet food engineers can develop a food for dogs that apparently tastes worse that sh1t???

...priceless.

They had to send the stones out to find out which ones they are. Thus is terrible to say but we are hoping that they are strevite stones, that way no surgery is required!!! She has free roam all day long on the weekends and in the evenings, during the work week,my mother lets her out every few hours.

We've never had this issue with our dog. We started feeding him "Chicken Soup" brand, and he's always loved it. He does have strange taste though. He refuses (actually, barks at) any raw chicken bones, and turns his nose at liver, which is almost unheard of. At any rate, good luck.
Can you buy the Chicken Soup brand locally? I've heard it is great food and I'd love to find something Cody will eat.

About 3 or 4 months ago I changed Jake & Woody over to Purina One Chicken & Rice. Woody was having some serious tummy problems....well, he got the trots really often on the Iams. My vet said to make him about 1 cup of rice a day, then change him over to a food containing rice. It worked.
They really love it, too.
