He cant keep copies legally as the documents don't belong to him. They belong to the government. He was an employee. That is the whole issue. Do you get to take your work product home after you are fired?

There is a process for declassifying documents he did not follow.

There is a process for getting documents to a presidential library through NARA he did not follow.

There is a presidential records act he violated.

What is wrong with you people?

Liar ..... the President can DECLARE Any Documents DeClassified
The President can wave his d$ck over a pile of documents, declare them unclassified, and it will be legal.
It’s up to his minions to file the appropriate paperwork and get all the stamps — purely bureaucratic process.

(As amusing as that action would be, it sounds more like a LBJ thing — Trump has too much class).

As president, Bill Clinton essentially wiped out any strategic advantage the U.S. had by selling advanced U.S. missile technology to our enemy, the People's Republic of China.
And after that the democrats have the balls to entertain the wrong headed notion that Trump cannot declassify any documents?

These people are so full of sheit and so filled with hate that they ignore the exit of every President before Trump and go after him like he was one of the Rosenbergs.

Top Secret compartmentalized documents have extremely tight control protocols. They must be logged in and out of the secure holding facility by a person that has clearance and authorization. Perhaps things are different in the Whitehouse, but it's likely there is a classified document office that's controlled by dedicated staffers. So who signed for these documents? When were they signed for? Why wasn't somebody notified when they weren't returned? Are Whitehouse procedures that lax? Has the investigation looked into the chain of custody? It seems strange that no WH staffer (at least to our knowledge) has come forward to offer evidence as to who checked out the documents and when. Also, how do you end up with empty folders marked TS?
I doubt the President personally checks out classified documents. I wonder if he was even aware.
I'm certainly not excusing him of this mess. Far from it. I just have a lot of questions. The FBI and the Justice department have lost a lot of credibility and this isn't helping.

Stolen from a friend but intriguing questions.

No need to excuse him, the President has the authority over the entirety of the Executive Branch, and that authority includes all of the Nation's secrets. If he determines that the information needs to be put into the public domain it is well within his authority and once he makes such a determination that is it, issue over. Presidents do not have to adhere to the procedures and processes established for subordinates within the executive agencies, they don't even have security clearances just like the members of the legislative and judicial branch (though their subordinates are supposed to).

Also, every one of those jackets have a serial number on them. So if they don’t know what’s in them, they don’t have the clearance.

While it certainly is true that POTUS is the ultimate [de]classification officer in the nation, his mere possession of classified material is not what has the government's attention. This is all covered in the portions of the warrant and supporting affidavit which are in the public domain.

The questions are legitimate ones , The president of course has access to any document he wants o see but it would seem whoever gave these documents would have to make note somewhere of where they went and they probably did. The president may declassify any document it seems, and of course we have read that he did.
What is forgotten here is not what Trump did or didn't do, what is happening is that a group of political turds and corrupt FBI and Justice Department officials are determined to stop Donald Trump from running for President and will not stop at anything dirty or illegal , immoral or fattening to see to it that he and anyone associated with him is placed in a bad light. IMO They would assassinate him if they had to. They are that frightened of him.

I had a TS/SBI/SCI clearance when I was an Electronic Security Tech at SAC HQ in the late 80's. - early 90's.
I recall that we were told during the brief on what it meant, that POTUS is the ultimate Class-Declass authority.

My wife was also cleared for weird, but in a different compartment (SF) and could not talk about her job with me.
However as my compartment (SI) was also Comsec, we could requisition documents from hers as so we could understand what we were monitoring on the unsecured lines of communication.

SI did not break down further into the Letter Codes, but SF did.
