This is proof CBS does not have a shred of ethics left.

Dan Rather is spared but the rest get the axe.

Dan Rather, who narrated the report, announced in November that he was stepping down as anchorman of the "CBS Evening News," but insisted the timing had nothing to do with the investigation. Rather "asked the right questions initially, but then made the same errors of credulity and over-enthusiasm that beset many of his colleagues in regard to this segment," top CBS executive Leslie Moonves said.

Given Rather's apology and announcement that he was stepping down, Moonves said further action against Rather was not warranted.

What a bunch of crap. The hack was in on it form the begining, salivating at the chance to poke W, AND he lent his "credibility" to the story.

Retiring or not, he is JUST and guilty as the rest and should have gotten the same thing.

Dan Rather is a living example of just how "Loyal to the little man" media liberals are. They get the ax, he gets to retired and suck off the CBS teet for the rest of his life. I bet he has "no comment" on the rest of his staff getting hacked.

In Bernie Goldberg's book Bias, he calls Dan Rather "The Dan" and likens him to a mafia don. When I read the book, I thought that was silly and overreacting. Now I'm not so sure, given the kid glove treatment he's gotten for purposely misleading the American public in order to sway a Presidential election.

Fox News is weighing in with their take on it.
They were all over this story this morning. I was on the treadmill for 40 minutes and they talked about it the whole time, and were still going with no end in sight when I jumped off.

Give it time, Rather will be axed, I think it is only a matter of time. I'm sure CBS isn't getting the best of press over this and it will be the only right and ethical thing to do.

Never happen, they have already said since he is retiring they are not going to do anything to him. Besides, if they did it now after they said all they have it would look like the MIGHTY CBS buckled to public pressure.

After I posted that I thought well he already had enough time in to retire, so firing him really doesn't prove anything or cause him any grief what-so-ever. The one upside is Rather is going out with a ruined reputation.

Looks like Mr Rather is practicing the Richard Nixon technique. Quit before they can fire you, then repair your rep over time.

See if they fire him he would be known as the News Anchor who got fired. This way he will just be the News Anchor who retired, oh and wasn't there some controversey

I still hope he and Jared go on a cruise. Sweet Rather Onion Teriyaki on white?

Dan Rather jumped the sharked years ago after holding on to that light pole during a hurricane. :lmao: I could never think of him as a serious journalist after that. :ohwell:

Honestly?

I'm pretty surprised that anyone is being held responsible at all, much less being held accountable and punished for this.

Yeah, I'd like to see Rather pitched out on his fat lying ass with the rest of them - but when it comes right down to it, I'm somewhat heartened by the fact that it was dealt with in the harsh - and totally justified - fashion that it was.

Turning to the most Liberal take on the matter that I could think of, the Lehrer News Hour on PBS, I was surprised to hear Thornburgh and others getting grilled as to if CBS had shown any political bias by doing the story. The LNH folks were really pushing that angle.

What I thought was interesting was that CBS and it's defenders are hyping the point that the report concluded that there was no political bias. But what Richard Thornburgh really said was that there was evidence of bias (specifically the producer working with the Kerry campaign), but that trying to prove a bias would be too difficult and not worth the effort.

Good Stuff

The report reveals on page 130 that Mapes, one of those fired because of the scandal, had documented information in her possession before the controversial September 8 broadcast that George W. Bush, while in the Texas Air National Guard, "did volunteer for service in Vietnam but was turned down in favor of more experienced pilots." This information is critical because Dan Rather, in the broadcast, insinuated that Bush was among the "many well-connected young men [who tried to] pull strings and avoid service in Vietnam."

Say it ain't so, Dan.

The report reveals that Rather assured CBS News President Andrew Heyward that he, Rather, had not "been involved in this much checking on a story since Watergate," and that it was "very big." The report says that Rather assured Heyward that the story was "thoroughly vetted" or documented and verified.

Your credibility is shot, Dano....retire

Listen, had CBS done the right thing and canned his a$$, he'd have sued based on age-ism. Remember when he walked off the air for 8 minutes? He'll definately be remembered in his biographies. He's toast!! :loser:
