This is what passes for Higher Education.

I'm not convinced that story is entirely true.

However, our colleges and universities do in fact appear to be these little bastions of Leftist thought control. And, since many of the more lucrative jobs tend to require at least a 4-year degree, is this a conspiracy by corporate America to brainwash our kids? Turn them into America-hating Marxists?

Soon, we will get to laugh at another conservative urban legend that Snopes.com will obliterate.
Dont go to college, kids, thar's mind control out that!
Only the free press gets more funny accusations thrown at it than colleges.

You can't possibly be serious, when there is undisputed, documented proof of Leftist thought control going on at our institutions of higher learning.

Obviously you are a kook, and I will no longer waste my time reading your silly posts.

Neither am I. I grew up within a 10-minute drive from the U of D; if they were implementing policies like that I would probably have heard about it already. The university generally has more pressing issues to deal with, like a shortage of beds in the dorms and getting the partying students to quit puking on Main street in Newark. (The local cops frown on that)

And that web site looked about as credible as St. Mary's Today.

Aw come on, nobody believes that stuff, they just say it to get a rise. Any one with a brain realizes that school in general has to be open so kids can try to figure out how the older folks screwed everything up.
When you have no responsibility, don't need a job - because everything is provided and paid for, are encouraged to think "out of the box" - anything and everything is fair game.
That how we get so many great ideas.

I don't know if it's entirely true, but there is something fishy...I found this press release...

University of Delaware accused of indoctrinating students

DOVER, Del. (AP) The University of Delaware has come under fire by a civil rights group that claims the school is trying to force dormitory residents to adopt university-approved ideologies on moral and social issues.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, or FIRE, said the university's residence life education program amounts to an ``Orwellian'' attempt at thought control that violates students' rights to freedom of conscience and freedom from compelled speech.
The group says they've ``never encountered a more systematic assault upon individual liberty, dignity, privacy and autonomy of university students than this program.''
FIRE officials called for the program, whose goal is for students to attain ``citizenship,'' to be dismantled immediately.
According to FIRE, the university sees the program as a ``treatment'' for incorrect student beliefs on issues ranging from politics to race, sexuality and the environment.
UD spokesman Neil Thomas says officials are reviewing the letter.

... not just leftists but they are far far far left. One of them reccomended Keith Olbermann and Anderson Cooper for anybody who wanted to watch "Real news" and stated everything else was pro-government propoganda. :jameo:

Here's what they say they are teaching:

University of Delaware - Residence Life

Hmmmm, that first class decription...
Active and engaged citizens must understand themselves before they can understand, communicate and relate to others. We believe that this is a process that requires increasingly more complex levels of awareness and understanding. In order to fully attain this competency an individual must first explore their own social identities. They must be able to identify the perceptions that the broader society may hold about their social identities. Our goal is to help students begin the process of making meaning and deciding on the role of their social identities as they relate to their personal context. Concurrently, the student must explore the perceptions/biases/ stereotypes that they hold about social identities to which they belong and also about those to which they do not claim membership. It is essential that they trace the source of these perceptions/biases/ stereotypes.

Sounds like that first article MAY be on target.

Hmm...definatly leans to the left but doesn't look quite as severe as the worldnet article made it sound.

Well, you know how liberals lie, so they probably sanitized the description to disguise what they're really teaching.

Lovely. And while they are busy learning this BS, they are not learning how to read, write, calculate, teach or become the business leaders that will employ millions and sustain our economy in the future.

I'm curious what they mean by "understand". Because Leftspeak is quite different from the definitions traditionally understood by normal people.

It could actually mean understand, as in learning the issues without having the judgements of the instructors pushed onto the students.

I see diversity training as beneficial if it is truly done for the stated purpose. If it is trying to teach the inner city people that everyone from the country isn't a redneck bumpkin, then it is appropriate to teach the country people that everyone from the city isn't a gang banger.

If the training is truly as one sided and biased as the Worldnet article is making it sound, then yes it is a problem.
