Those that were against Trump's trade war....

What do you think of Biden's trade war?
Former President Trump launched a “trade war” with China in 2018 that mostly produced a series of economic skirmishes and logistical workarounds. Trade between the two nations continued, with some collateral damage where Trump lobbed a tariff, or China lobbed back retaliatory measures.
With far less fanfare, the Biden administration has launched a new broadside against China that could do far more damage to its economy than anything Trump contemplated, and trigger unprecedented retaliation by China. On Oct. 7, the Biden administration surprised the world with new export controls that effectively prohibit the sale of advanced American computer chips and chipmaking technology to China.

Perhaps the more refined among us understand that ALL trade wars are no good for free and unfettered commerce. Freedom of association is a natural right and ANY government interference in this arena is antithetical to individual freedom.

Or perhaps the more aware of us understand that when a government puts its thumb on the scales of free trade, then it's not free trade anymore. Is it? And China used a very heavy thumb while we refuse to even touch our side of the scale for a long time. Put an equal amount of weight on the scale is only fair

I view it differently.

Yes, we all know China's game. But I don't believe in "fighting fire with fire". Why engage in what we know is behavior that is anti-freedom? Stay the course. China is a big market, but they are not make-or-break.

So all the intellectual property theft all the currency manipulation all the state subsidization of industry to bankrupt ours? Just wave that off and say it doesn't matter? I'm sorry but a market that isn't fair is a market that isn't free. You say anti-freedom I say it was never free. I'm supposed to let them have the freedom and expect my industry to not have a fair playing field?

I understand your position; it is not unique, with all due respect. Understand that I don't have a country to run (so I can afford to be a purist), but at the risk of repeating myself: don't meet bad behavior with more bad behavior.

China needs us more than we need them. There are other nations with which to trade on more-free terms.

Don't forget to hold your pinkie in the air while you're drinking your 7oz.

So economic war is okay? That's the bad behavior you are talking about. And if I'm reading you right, your answer would be to stop trading with China completely? A full trade embargo?
