The statement was that Tesla sources outside China, and it was questioned where it came from. A quick Google search shows that Tesla right now still sources the majority of it's battery material from China. Tesla is also considering developing their own mining operations to bypass that.

There are plenty REE in the USA, the problem is with separation processing, which is lacking. I've read that processing facilities are currently being developed in Colorado and Texas, though governmental "red-tape" hurdles are slowing any rapid development.

Exactly. And just like we innovated to extract shale oil so too shall we innovate make this a viable effort, red tape notwithstanding. MP Materials, posted above, is about the only significant player at the moment. Their stock has taken a beating of late, but will get better with scale processing.

China sources the majority of the materials they process and refine from beyond their borders, mostly from Australia, Chile and Argentina. MP Materials ships most of the REE they harvest to China for processing (and is partly owned by Shenghe Resources).

You are just trying to push more BS. China is by far and away the largest producer and you know it. Having vast quantities of something but not producing and refining it is like being 10 years old having Billion dollar trust fund that you cannot access until you are 21 !

Hey pant noodle?

Strawman argument. I never once stated or attempted to make the case that China was NOT the world's largest producer. I made the case, successfully, that there are plenty of rare earths in North America.

Swing and a miss, kid.

True. I was not differentiating between mined and refined. When Tesla buys it, the majority still comes from outside the US.

Just wait until professional jobs like CPA, lawyer, doctor etc are outsourced due to the rise of teleworking. How many of our accountants, lawyers, doctors will be residing in India, China, etc (and operating tech support/telemarketing at the same time)?
