Hi all, My daughter needs a calculator for algebra. I really don't want to spend a hundred bucks for one. Anybody have a used one for sale? It needs to be TI-83 or 84. Thanks, :howdy: Gary

I will check with the Hubby, he uses those fancy calculators for work.

I just got the TI-84 Plus for my math class... :faint: 135 bucks with the USB cable, the link-up line and the software.

If I flunk out(by December at the latest), she can have it.

:yahoo: Class starts Monday

How does a calculator factor into algebra? I guess I am that old.:ohwell:

Eight years from now, she may need a calculator to perform a Fourier Transform or a 4th-Order Runge-Kutte. Give her my digits.

Just kidding...

I have a TI-92 and a TI-35 Plus. I love my TI-35. I rarely use the TI-92

FOr ALGEBRA!?? I'd double check that.. I didn't need a graphing calculator until I got to Calculus.. a TI 83 is way overkill for an algebra class.

I never used any fancy calculator for Algebra. We used paper.

Paper for algebra and geometry, but a slide rule for chemistry!

:yeahthat:

My dad refused to buy me a calculator....he said "what happens if the batteries die, where will you be then?"...to which I replied(in my head, of course) "at the store buying batteries" :lmao:

For Algebra I(high school) it is on the supply list....they prefer that you get the "upgradedable" model(TI-84, I think) if you are in CM or AP math

Wait it gets better. You need this one for Algebra and then next year a totally different one. Hey - kids can now use calculators at the SATs!!!! The prices have sure gone up in 4 years. When I had to buy one they cost about $75-$80. If you can wait until a weeks after school starts you may be able to get them on sale.

I just broke down a bought one. Last year I bought a cheapy....don't do that it was a big mistake. It doesn't do everything it needed to. Any way Walmart had them for 98.00 and when I got up to the check out it was on sale for 88.00 and they will continue to use it even into college.

calculator

So we are teaching kids how to use a calculator instead of math. No wonder we are getting our @$$ kicked by foreign countries. I thought a calculator was to be used to make math easier, not do the work for you. The comment about going to the store to buy batteries was funny but completely wrong.

:yeahthat: They (thankfully) started using calculators in math class right after I got through. I really cannot understand why calculators are being used, and even worse, required for math class. I know the calculator can do the math. I want the kids to be able to do it.

These calculators can solve equations for you!

They 'rent' them for the year for $5 from the school. thats the way i went, figuring if the boy decides go to college they would probably have a new model.
