I wonder if the old crowds will return?

Hard to say. In the past, everyone from miles around knew the Spring opening was always the third Friday in April. People would plan for that every year just like Thanksgiving.

If I may ...

Thinking its time has passed. Just another place to get an outdoor drink and grub now.

I may very well turn out that way. Back in the day, I used to like to go to the opening each year. I'm talking late 80s early 90s. But then it turned into a lot of craziness.

That is true. Back then it was a way better experience. The entire Island was more laid back. One could even drop a line and fish on the wharf across from Bunky's, or anywhere on the Island, pre 1990. Tiki was just a nice outside place to go and hang out with friends, or look for that next date. No rabble rousing. No need for the Sheriff's goon squad all dressed up for a war patrolling the revelers. Under Sheriff Adrian L. Joy (1971-1990) and Lawrence "Bootsie" Stinnett (1990-1994), things were quite good and deputies were considered "Peace Officers". And if they were there at the Tiki, those very few deputies that were there, just kept the peace, when needed.

Having spent a fair amount of time at Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, I have to chuckle when I run into a Tiki Bar Opening Party fan who can't contain themselves about the bestus party they've ever seen. But, alas, the only party I need these days is a handful of good people and some beautiful outdoors scenery void of fools.

Gotta love the people who waste a vacation day in order to fork over $12 for an acid-infused fruit drink with a little alcohol, stand in line for a porta-potty, and get to hang out with 40-50 year old "beauty queens" trying to show you their saggy mammories :lmao:

Fun times :sarcasm:

Can't fight the affects of gravity and age.
I have no interest in the Tiki bar for a number of reasons, none to do with saggy anything.
  • location: they really aren't on the water and the parking sucks. I don't want to dodge bodies and Dodges
  • booze: I'm not into cheap beer or mixed drinks. I enjoy a variety of adult beverages but with a little pricier taste.
I've been there once, for a happy hour / farewell celebration. It was too early for the normal crowd, so I can't speak to the people who go there.
I'm not a snob in that regard, as long as you show me respect, I'll return the favor. I can chat with anyone or sit quietly and enjoy the breeze, the sunset and my drink. (the latter is not going to happen at the Tiki) Which is why I like the River Bar.

nobody really

Didn't Bob Hope sing a song like that? "Thanks for the Mammories" ?
Thinking you might be referring to the minstrels. Made famous by Al Jolson singing mammy in black-face. Of course that's racist even hinting that. Shame on you.
