I change lane position a lot when riding solo... Any entrance to the road, I move from side to side to make sure anything there can see me... On Rt2 every day I probably change lane position 20 times easily.. QUOTE]

I do that as well. I will usually initiate my gtfootw plan when i see a car on the verge of pulling out. I just don't trust anyone driving. So i have my way out, and i use it.

500 miles last Sunday, 100 miles in and around Greensboro, 500 miles yesterday. I was not seen a few times however, no one put up much sincere effort to try and kill me. I almost feel unwanted.

Granted, 50 out west of Winchester, 42, Smoke Hole Road, 220, 33, on down to Blue Ridge Parkway and then on to Greensboro ain't exactly the beltway or 235 or other such shooting galleries but, I mean, nothing. Even when I jumped on 81 and 70 for the last hour home last night, no cut off, no lane creep, no sudden changes. Nothing. :tap:

Maybe it's my deodorant???

Almost got clocked this morning by a woman who started to pull out in front of me, but saw me just as I was "locking them up". Quickly found out that my ABS works pretty well.

I don't know why, but it never dawned on me that bikes have ABS now.
Yeah, I know :whoosh:
Thing is, just because your car/bike has ABS; doesn't mean that you won't hit somebody in the a**; because even though the systems have improved; too close is too close; thus rendering the system basically useless.
You're gonna wind up in somebody's back seat.

 Actually a very good, illustrative way to make the point.

This has been the longest ride of my motorcycle life and, as such, gave me lots of uninterpreted miles to see how I tend to ride and react and work on problems as they develop and notice patterns, weakness, etc. I ALWAYS grade myself out on rides, short or long, pass/no pass, on whether I made a mistake, be it awareness, too much speed for what I could see/do a controlled stop or other maneuver, choice or what have you or simply did something dumb. I have a fair number of 'pass' rides but, I guess something like 50% of the time, I do something that could have lead to baddy bad bad.

On this ride, I made one boo boo. Pretty happy with what seems to be my standard MO.

However, ABS does prevent/limit locked up 'solutions' where you skid into something bad. Most riders are better off with it. I don't like the systems where the rear brake engages the front, at all but, for the most part, it's a clear plus.

The 'wing has that. Press the rear brake pedal and you activate front and rear. Use the handbrake, and you activate a different set of calipers and rotors on the front.

I pretty much ignore the fact that the pedal activates both and ride like it doesn't, ie I always use the handbrake in conjunction with the pedal, never use the pedal alone.

You don't drag rear brake for low speed maneuvering?

Pfft. Dragging the brake just slows you down. I maneuver with the throttle. Back off and the bike dives in the direction of the turned front wheel. Throttle up and it tries to stand up and it go in the other direction.

Works real well going thru the roundabouts...

Brake? We don need no stinkin' brakes....

Well, us lowly None Space Ship types were taught that dragging rear, friction zone and throttle control were part and parcel to sound low speed operation.

Apparently, turn by wire is the way to go, huh?

Well, because I can't drag the rear, I have to 'improvise'.

There ain't that much improvising in my skill set. :jameo:

I'd truly be lost if I couldn't drag rear. Well, that's not true. I wouldn't be lost. I'd be picking my bike back up.
