Here's my contribution---One snowy day and one icy one......

Any of you St Mary's folks know where the first one was taken?

I didnt take anywhere near 700, hell probably not even 70! I resorted back to the D80 and 50mm f/1.4 since thats about all i have left.

Diablo enjoying his very first experience with snow.....

Methodically disorganized
I'm surprised some things have not been mentioned yet...

Like contrast. Contrast can determine whether your photograph is exciting or bland, but it can be tough to capture properly because you are shooting solid white against darker subjects. Just because your eyes can see detail in the trees and snow does not mean your camera will; those trees may end up way underexposed in the photograph even if the snow looks good.

On the other side, shooting on winter days - especially while it's snowing - can result in drab photographs because of too little contrast. The trick is to get the right amount of light on the right part of the subject, so timing is important.

Including a little color - like those berries from photos posted earlier - can be a good thing, but I'd do so minimally. Limiting the color helps that color punch while maintaining that serene sense of place you are trying to capture.

And lastly... if you're shooting in So. MD, it's probably a good idea to shoot quickly because the white stuff won't last long.

Common sense ain't common
Took this pic on the afternoon on the 27th of my son JJ, it was his 12th birthday. *s* Not only did he get out of school three hours early on his birthday, he got the next day off to play with all of his toys! One of his best birthdays ever!

(For you techies taking notes: Canon Powershot S2 IS, we've had this camera for almost 5 yrs now and it hasn't disappointed us yet)
