tire rotation question

today I went and had my oil changed, tires rotated and balanced, and new wiper blades ..

ok here's my question aren't the front tires supposed to be moved to the rear? cuz one day I was putting air in my tire and lost the lil' cap off the valve stem on the front drivers side tire... so after I got home I looked to see where that tire ended up (cuz it tends to lose air) and it is now on..

the passenger front??? is that correct?

and if its not right should I go back and let them know that they didnt do it correctly?

thanks for your help

I think rotating the tires on a front wheel drive is a waste of money. Don't do it and you'll wind up replacing the rears every other time you replace the fronts

With a front wheel drive car you're supposed to rotate by staggering them i.e. front driver to rear passenger/passenger front to driver rear. As with my car, I have directional tires so I can go only go front to back with them.

He may have put a valve stem cap on your valve stem. I'd surely hope that they know how to rotate tires. They may have rotated them according to your tires wear. With a front wheel drive car, you want the tires with the less wear up front.

thanks for the replies... nah the cap was still missing thats how I knew where they moved the left front tire to.

the drivers front tire had the most wear and was moved to the passenger front.

(car is front wheel drive)

Rotation should look like an X.

He might have put all the caps in his pocket as he worked.
But you should have gotten one gratis.
Next time use chalk.

Owners manual.:coffee: Just do it. Don't know what you are driving which adds to the equation. Some tires are directional in rotation and cannot be x-pattern rotated. Owners Manual:coffee: Just do it.

So the tire on the right front goes to the left rear and then next time back to the right front? You sure?

I just looked at my manual.

LF to RR
RR to RF
RF to LR
LR to LF if no spare is involved.

Otherwise:
LF to SPARE
SPARE to RR
RR to RF
RF to LR

Yep, thats the way I've always done it. I make sure the shops do it that way too when I take it in. Mark the tires and check them.

But do check you manual first. Some vehicles have directional tires, and must be rotated differently. Others may have different sized tires front and rear, which nessecitate a different pattern. AS usual, the fine folks at Tire Rack have the scoop.

Tire Tech Information - Tire Rotation Instructions

Whoops, forgot, for folks with directional tires, if a shop mounts them for you, check behind them, twice I have caught them putting them on backwards, and they didnt believe til I showed the big freakin arrow molded into the tire "Rotation this way" -------->

In My Opinion
if the car is moving and the tires stop rotating, its called skidding.

you are very welcome.

If the car is stopped, and two tires are rotating, thats called a burnout.:larry:

I got a little too happy but here is the perfect demo of front tires stopped and rears spinning!
