Tire Shop that accepts good trade-ins?

So I just purchased a used truck. Tires are new, but not my style. Would like to trade 'em in for some new ones put on. Is there any place that might trade in my current set if I buy a new set?

Otherwise, I'm thinking of trying to sell them outright. But I don't want to buy new ones until I can be sure they are sold. Trade-in seems the best option. I've heard of it being done, but not locally.

Thanks,

they might, but I wouldnt really expect it, maybe a private sale through the classifieds?

Liability issues have pretty much eliminated shops from selling used tires.
Why not wear the tires out and then get your style on?

I know a few still sell used ones, but they dont pay you for them, they just put them on a rack out front if they have serviceable tread on them. I know I always get asked if I want my old ones. And I usually do take the best two home, since my tires are unique, and a flat would sideline me for a week or better waiting on a replacement.

In My Opinion
Last time I had a set that was still useable, I just made the offer on the forums and found someone that needed them.
I might be doing that again here in a month or so.

I would rather give them away to someone that can use them then to give them to the tire shop.

Southern Tire has a rack of used tires that they sell.

But something just occurred to me.... we as the consumer are mandated to pay a fee for tire disposal, which the tire dealer passes on for proper disposal. If the tire dealer sees a tire that could be resold, he's not disposing of it thru channels, and is not entitled to my disposal fee. AND he gets whatever price for the tire as well.

Now, I'm not denying anyone from making a buck, but if I have to pay a disposal fee, then I should get a refund if he re-sells it.

Good point. But, if he does that, it might cut the margin so much its not worth keeping that rack out front. Having been broke enough a couple of time that the used tire rack saved my butt, I'll give over the $5.00 in the name of karma.

could be that he can still refund your five and make money, on that I have no idea.

Thanks for the feedback. Liability these days is always something to be concerned about, I see your point.

If I have to wait to wear these out, sheesh...that'd be awhile! Plus, I'd rather have on/off-road tires than "All season" tires on my truck for the winter, and...I'll be doing some beach running in the Outer Banks this spring and don't want my nice new truck stuck in the sand. :1bdz: Not to mention, I just can't stand puny tires on a big truck! Never understood why OEM's put those on in the first place.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

Having done a lot of on-beach driving on Long Island, I found the best tire (if you stay within the same range, style and size of tire) is a good radial. Air that puppy down and it will walk thru sugar sand. I've had the over-sized balloon tires and beach setups, but preferred a normal radial. Rides SO much better on the road and considering the amount of road vs beach driving......
