My 'Stang came with Pirelli tires on it, but after a couple years (only about 35K miles on them) they would ride really rough when it was cold out. They also made a lot of noise. Replaced them with Michelin. MUCH better!

Trust me... I paid the bill... I know I paid over 1k per tire and we got them from Big Ed's and his price was better than those I found online for the same tire.

Here is a quick glance at tires over 1k.

Goodyear Tires - Over $1,000 - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at Nextag

Right, but out of that whole list, there is only really one listing for single tires over 1K, thats that Goodyear NCT Runflat in a really wackadoo size. 21 inches?

In any case, I am %100 sure we could help you find a better tire for far less money than $1000 a tire. Might require a slight size change, but as long as you keep overall diametere the same, and dont go crazy on witdh you should be fine. . On my car, I went from 245/4520 to 275/4020. Made a great difference in overall grip.

I have been using a site called tires easy.com. Cheaper than most other online places, and way cheaper than anyone in town. Bought a set of General Grabber AT2's, Mr. Tire was over $1000, cheapest I found was Walmart at $800. I paid $675 shipped for four tires and walmart charged me $67 to mount, balance and put new valve stems in. Shipped from WA and had been out for delivery the Monday sandy came in, arrived weds. Have ordered from them the last 4 times I bought tires and no one has come close to beating the prices even with mounting and balancing.

Hmmm, just for kicks, bounced tireseasy against discounttiredirect, who I have used a couple of times when buying Nittos or Hankooks, for the General Tires GS03 in a 275/40/20.

TE was cheaper on the tires, but did charge for shipping. Total for TE was $887.26, while DTD was, due to free shipping, $876.00. Not much of a difference, but there was one.

DTD was a about $45 more for the tires I wanted, and they had about a 3 week lead time. It depends alot on what you are after, my buddy said DTD was still cheaper for tires for his Camaro, but for the truck TE was about $100 less. Still think it is awesome I ordered them on Friday and they went out for delivery on Monday, not bad for WA to MD.

I just bought tires from simpletire.com and they were a little over 500 cheaper than Mr. Tire

That's a lot of money. Might want to make sure the tires aren't old.

Tire Tech Information - Determining the Age of a Tire

Tire stores have just plain silly markups. Stock tires for my Charger....

Mr Tire - $426 each tire.

MrTire.com - Search By Size - 255/45R20

Thats $1627 mounted and balanced after rebate

TireRack - $194 each tire. (And you can be damn sure TR isnt selling out of date tires, although the four sets I have bought from online vendors have all been recent tires)

Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar

Thats $696 after the mail in rebate. A $930 dollar difference. I know, what about shippiing, mounting, and balancing?

Well, shipping from Delaware is a total of $54. Not each tire, thats for all four. So it's only $876 less so far. Mounting and balancing? Well, Cutris has charged me I think a hair over $20 a tire for high speed balancing, but we'll call it $50 a tire just in case it's gone up since last year:) -$200 still leaves you with a $676 discrepancy.

So, even allowing for a silly amount for mount and balance, it's over $500 cheaper. Run the numbers for your own tires, see what happens. And if you use the total for mount and balance of under $100 that I recall, it's significantly better.
