To Kiss or Not To Kiss

I was brought up with very little, and sometimes no physical interaction. When I became a Mother, I showered my Kids with affection. My Daughter is very affectionate, and gives little pecks on the lips, but my Son grew out of that by about age 6. He's a hugger though.

I can totally relate. I've always had a very close relationship with my parents and my brother. Growing up, we weren't a very affectionate family but we all always knew the love was there. We've all been through a lot in life and we've always been there for one another. For some reason though, I turned out to be very affectionate toward my son. I probably hug and kiss him 25 times a day. I sometimes peck him on the lips but more often on his cheek, forehead or on the top of his head. I don't see anything wrong with kissing family members on the lips but for me, the only people I kiss on the lips are my hubby and my son (and I'm sure that'll change as he gets older. At 4, Mommy & Daddy are still his world!).

Personally, I believe children should be lavished with affection so they grow up into affectionate adults and loving parents. But that’s just me.

What do you think?

I give my wife and KID one or more hugs everyday ... once when I get home and at bed time

[I kiss the KID on the cheek]

My moms side of the family is very kissy and go for the lips. I've always turned my head so they hit my cheek. What makes it worse is that most of them are hard core smokers. :barf:

I'm all for the hugs though!! :huggy:

The only adult I smooch is my husband, all other grown ups get light hugs. Parents get a light (possibly air) kiss to the cheek.

My kids I generally don't lip kiss. I go for cheeks and the tops of heads. They are both learning kisses now, so they are getting some lip smackers. Gotta love the baby/toddler slobber smooches.

Kiss them anyway you want.

You and your kids are the only judge of what is appropriate.

Some of my kids were cheek only, some were lip smackers.

all............were huggers.

and nothing has changed as they have gotten older.
