Are you serious? You are feeding a wild animal?

Yes, I'm serious. I have roughly about 20-30 feral cats that come to my porch every evening for dinner. I have my two dog beds on my porch and at night they become cat beds. The feral cats sleep in my swing and the dog beds and every evening i have two possums and 1 raccoon that comes up to eat the cat food as well (the raccoon and possums dont come together, they stager. The cats dont bother either one, nor do they bother the cats, they just come to eat and leave.

What is he laying on?

His stuffed animal...He is a single orphan..sibling got run over and missed him, next driver stopped and rescued hi. before he got run over.

Anyway, raccoons are very social animals and in the den will crawl over each other.
To help him in a rebalition setting, we give all single babies a stuffed animal to crawl over, chew on and snuggle with. :huggy:

How many human babies have the same thing???

Inkpen where do you keep all these animals in your home when you take them in to rehab them if you have other pets already like cats and dogs?

No dogs..
Just adult cats.
Animals are in cages in the kitchen and the bathroom.
Some are in a pre-release cage outside to acclimate to the weather.

Cats are afraid of the opossums, and watch the squirrels.
One squirrel teases, yes teases the cats and chatters at them..They in turn sit on the floor really confused.
All my cats are indoor only. Never go out.
All get along fine, never had an accident.

Only problem is when squirrels toss food on the floor, it become as instant cat toy....
Ever stepped on a half eatten cherry at 3 am in bare feet???
Yuck!! :lmao:

I have a problem with the coons and possums getting in my trash cans and making a mess. I caught one of the hungry coons and called calvert animal control to come remove it and relocate it. Their response to me was if I had a gun, pop a cap in it, and throw the body in a near by field for the buzzards. I promply carted him up the road a few miles and let him go back into the woods again away from from my trash can.

1. Clean up your trash and you will not have a critter issue.
You have a nice food sourse and they take advantage of it.
Remove food adn critters will go elsewhere to find stuff to eat.

2. You can shot and kill pest wildlife on your property.

3. You can not trap and relocate it. It is a social animal, has babies, juveniles, etc to feed and raise. You remove it, you can cause more of a problem.

4. Fix your trash can lids so the top stays on..ie: use a chain to hold it down.

5. Odd are raccoon found its way home after all you did to get rid of it.

6. If not, local raccoons killed it as it was an intruder.

Anyway you look at it, you did all the wrong things.

Your obviously an educated animal lover but I have to ask, have you attempted to have the Feral cats Spayed or neutered to control their population?

And at least for the rest of us to know .....

Free-ranging cats are abundant and widespread predators. They often exist at much higher densities than native predators. They prey on large numbers of wild animals, some of which are rare or endangered. They compete with native predators, and they harbor a variety of diseases. Yet, cats are popular pets. In order to have and care for our pets--and still protect our native wildlife--we must make an effort to limit in a humane manner the adverse effects free-ranging cats can have on wildlife.

You're actually bragging about feeding feral cats? Amazing. Are you aware of the harm you are doing and just don't care, or are you naive enough to think you are helping?

I have TNR'd a total of 8. Once I trap one, it takes a long time for the other cats to trust to go into closed quarters to be caught again.

Yep, cats aren’t dumb and is why I would involve animal control experts to assist in large populations.

You sound like you're one of those Crazy Cat Ladies that scare neighborhood children, and whose house stinks because of all the cat pee.

yes, acutally I am vey happy that I am able to help animals. I try to practice TNR to help prevent the population. The cats are trained to come to my house every evening, but they still dont trust enough to allow to be social. I dont belive I am doing any harm to them as they dont have to "hunt" for food. They have a safe place to sleep at night, and by morning they are all scattered. Whats amazing that there are so many closed minded people on these boards that swear their opnion is the only opinion. I am a true animal lover and I try to help at any chance I get, and I will not defend myself to you or any one else for the deeds that I do, whether you approve of them or not!

I will not imply that your heart is not in the right place or that people like yourself lack compassion. However allowing populations of feral cats to exist and multiply results in a negative impact to the very thing that you hold dear to your heart. I to love animals but but the sad truth in allowing these poor creatures to co exist will only result in death of local wild life and can you live with that?

Well thank you. but you could not be anymore wrong. Maybe I should explain where I live. My house is over 4000 sq. feet and I am on over six acres of wooded land my porch is a wrap around, i have a section of my porch where the dogs lay during the day and the cats lay at night. I dont have a little single story house with a little landing for a porch.

Only one of my dogs come in the house and usually that is only at night, or if it rains he stays in all day. When I leave in the morning, he goes out and lays in the yard until my husband comes home. My other dogs stay in a crate in the garage at night and during the day they stay in a 15 x 30 foot pen.

my house is very clean, I have three electronic litter boxes (with the charcoal filters) and are changed either daily or every other day depending on the usage of the box, and my cats are litter box trained so they do not go on the floor. each cat box is in a walk in closet in a bedroom of the house. I surface clean daily when I get home from work and I deep clean the house every saturday morning. I am not a clean freak, but I do not like filth, the only "mess" you will find in my house is from my toddlers toys and the only "smell you will smell" is if my son has had a poopy diaper and it was just changed. And as for the neighborhood children, since our houses all have at least a three acre minimum, there are only 16 houses in my neighborhood, and we are pretty far apart, so no, the kids that do come over, arent scared of me, but thank you for your concern.

Next time Ernie, blow it's head off. Any babies will raise themselves if you shoot it but not if you relocate it. :duh:

Psssttttttt.... it's "shoot", not shot.

Nope, my son doesnt go around the feral cats. they come up at night and leave by morning. and you feel sorry for my neighbors, well it was my neighbor that brought the first cat home which was semi tame and let him run wild and he started the population going, so no you should be feeling sorry for me because I had a heart, I couldnt turn my back on hungary cats and kittens. shoot me for having a heart!
