Spy Thriller Author Tom Clancy's Home Damaged by Fire
March 29, 2008 - 6:01pm

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Author Tom Clancy's home was damaged by a fire that burned a second-floor deck Saturday, a spokesman for the Maryland fire marshal's office said.
Clancy, the author of popular thrillers such as "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," and "Clear and Present Danger," was home at the time, but was not injured in the noon blaze, spokesman Joe Zurolo said.

"The smoke alarms are what alerted him to the fact there was a fire," Zurolo said.

The cause of the fire, which caused about $10,000 in damage to the rear of the three-story stone home, has not been determined, Zurolo said.

About 50 firefighters battled the fire for about 10 minutes before bringing it under control. No other injuries were reported, the spokesman said.

The home is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay about 30 miles southeast of Washington.

It seems that it's Wilson/Emmanuel Church that is the dividing line but the homes off of Clay Hammond (Lottie Fowler, etc.) are Prince Frederick. :jameo:

It is weird, isn't it? I wonder if it's always been that way? We've been here for 20 years but they built many of those homes back off of Wilson Road, etc. since then. People tend to be hung up on a Huntingtown address...it's much more prestigious than good ole' Prince Frederick.

Yep - that's where I am and it is considered Prince Frederick. I think you are right - I think it is Emmanuel Church and Wilson that provides the dividing line - where it goes from there is anybody's guess.

I, for one, am proud of my Prince Frederick address! :yay: :yahoo:

Its a beautiful property. If I remember correctly he has a Sherman tank in the yard somewhere. Used to fly over it all the time.

That building...

Interesting that two authors have had fires in the past month. Nora Roberts Bed and Breakfast burned just a short time ago. I am not sure where in Maryland her place is.

...had been gutted and was in a vulnerable construction state; everything exposed, work going on. It is in Boonsboro.

I don't see a connection.

He tossed a cigarette out his window and it didn't clear the deck.

Hey Catt,,,this for real?
I could smell the lingering smoke smell last night as it made its way up the hill...

Sadly a kid can die on the TJ bridge and no one reports it ( biker killed in freak accident)
yet a man who wrote books, flicks a butt, burns his house and gets national coverage....

Go figure.....

In doubt? Throttle out!
Good. Karma strikes again. I've had two run-in's with him and he was a complete (I'll keep it PG) jerk.

Yeah he does. My dad used to own a trucking company and he delivered to the house a few times.

Apparently, when he and his wife divorced, she didn't move very far. She lives down Sheridan Point Road in her own "estate" - $1.2 million, 80+ acres.

She's from "the county." I always wondered where she went after she sold the place on Clay Hammond.

She's family, and a very nice lady. Her place is gorgeous, we had a family reunion there a couple years ago.

So what happened then? Is he really a "jerk" as another poster previously posted?

It seems to me I somewhat recall this divorce playing out in the tabloids/newspapers. I thought there was some infidelity of some sort but I'm not sure...
