I am so going to do those, my husband will love them. They would make great Christmas gifts also.

I'm intrigued. Multi-layered with different flavors, inject fillings, bake right in the glass jar like you were canning.

Neat idea.

I liked the comment about baking them in baby food jars so it is like a cup cake and can be shared. That would also work good for birthdays and can decorate the jars.

I showed this to my daughter and she said that she was reading about the baby food jar cups cakes. I think it's a neat idea, I just never knew you could bake the jars. Thought I knew a lot about baking, but guess there is always something new to learn.

Would you prefer to see pics of my butt crack as I work on the kitchen sink while shouting for the slave girl to get me a beer?

I'm going to try to make this but there seems to be a debate in the Comments section about whether or not to let the cake cool first before putting the lid on. People are saying that if you put the lid on while still hot/warm, it is a breeding ground for mold. What say you?

Just like regular canning, you put the lid on while hot. At that point it's sterile (well, as sterile as it will get at 350*) and as it cools creates a vacuum that seals it from outside contaminants.

If you wait until it's cool, it can become more contaminated.

Experiment. Try it both ways and see which one lasts longer on the shelf.

Just made my first batch. Used chocolate and yellow cake mixes, some just one color, some marbled. Pretty straight forward.

Seemed to get done much quicker than the 30 minutes they called for, but the stick-test came up dry, so I hope they are done.

One box of cake mix makes about 5 one-pint mason jars.

The only 'caution' is to make sure the rim of the glass is clean before you put the seal lid on, otherwise it won't seal properly.

Waiting for the cooling 'lid pop' now.

So now I'm thinking..... jarred bread? Like canned bread only in glass?

I now know why you never dated after your divorce, you're gay aren't ya? :huggy:

It's ok. It's legal now, you can come out of the closet.

:roflmao: You know I'm just kidding. It's a good thing when a man knows his way around the kitchen, the yard, the tool belt and doesn't mind doing any of it. Atta boy.
