I am trying to find a Toys for Tots drop off or something of that nature, in St. Marys.

If you give to Toys for Tots in St. Mary's, your gift ends up in D.C. or Baltimore, instead of St. Marys. There is a Navy/Marine unit on base doing a toy drive in conjunction w/ T.F.T., but the toys they collect are staying here.

There was an article in Friday's Enterprise about them. They are the Marine Aviation Division, I think. The abbreviation was MAD, and they called it the MAD dash for Toys or something, like that. The article said there were several drop off points in St. M's and Calvert.

The major toy distribution to the recepients for the "Mad Dash for Toys" from the Marine Aviation Detachment at PAX River will be Tuesday evening (12/21) at the Chancellor's Run Senior Center.

The applicants for Toys are all pre-screened by St. Mary's County.

The toys that are collected in St. Mary's County stay in St. Mary's County. That's what I like best about this program! Toys collect here stay here!

I'm actually involved behind the scenes for this great program. The Marines are great to deal with. :patriot:

How do they screen the applications? I mean do they do site visits to the families or can just anyone call and say hey I need toys for my brats and they give them to you?

I believe it's done through "Social Services" at St. Mary's County. They pre-sceen the applicants and make sure people who deserve the toys end up with the toys , not any scammers.

I could be wrong here, so forgive me if that's the case. I know St. Mary's County is involved in the screening process.

I went to the toy distribution at the Chancellors Run Senior Center two years ago and it was unbelievable! It was like a huge toy store and families were assigned specific times to go through and pick out their toys.

The toys are all catagorized ie. a huge pile of Barbie's, tons of games all together etc.

It's rewarding to help them out!
