I finally got one of them. It is the Motorola C139. Decent coverage in St. Mary's as far as I can tell and as it is only for limited use I find it more practical than getting into a "plan" deal.

I have been using one for a few years and have not had a problem. Use the double minute coupons that come in in email and the mail to cut costs.

That's all I have. I don't live on the cell phone. It's there in case of emergency. Incredibly cheap compared to all the services out there. I have a simple V170 - but you can get camera phones and other bells and whistles. Mine is only on in the car in case I have trouble or if the kids need me while I'm on the road. Works everywhere but Webster where its sketchy.

I think verizon has some decent pay as you go phones.. For those that dont want to be tied down in a contract or dont have the credit to get one, I would go this route. I have verizon and had no deposit, but I have seen where they require some people that have no credit or bad credit up to 1000 for a deposit which is NUTS !!

I looked at the Verizon plans and they require a monthly fee. I get a 60 minute card for my track phone every couple of months for $20 and that's it. I mainly got it for emergency use while riding the bike and it's great for that. I don't walk around with the phone jammed in my ear all the time.
Think it's piggy backed on the verizon network since the coverage area's are about the same.
FYI - TracFone is offering double minutes on all cards redeemed till 12/23.

I got my son the new Boost Phone. He will have free incoming calls and free outgoing calls after 7pm and unlimited walkie talkie. We have Nextel and this links up with nextel. So he can reach up by walkie talkie if he wants. And it is a pay as you go service. I think as long as he has a $70 credit in the phone he get all that stuff free. Not too sure how that works but will know soon.

We had the trac phone awhile ago. We switched to the Verizon Go phone.. IF you plan on using it for more then emergencies Trac Phone is EXPENSIVE.. something like $.40 or more a minute.. the Go phone is around 10 cents a minute.

Just loaded 120 minutes for $20 = $0.06 a minute. That was a double time sale, normal is 60 min for $20. Price per min drops with the larger minute cards.

Did you order the phone directly form "Trac Fone" or purchase it from an outside retailer?

You might have a wider selection online, but I got a Motorola V60i at K Mart a couple of years ago. They sell the cards and phones in their electronics dept.

I have been happy with Virgin mobile. 18 cents a minute all the time and you only have to put $20 every 90 days on the phone.

I've used both in the past and by far, hands down, prefer the trac fone...

120 minutes at 6 cents a minute would be $7.20.

Their sale price is about 16 cents a minute, so the regular price would have been 32 cents a minute.

AND if I remember right they aren't minutes as much as units depending on the time of day, or if it's text determines how many units per minute or per message you use.

AND I thought there was a per call fee of something like .50 or so.. no matter if the call was one minute or ten..

Damn I keep posting as BG, but I like looking at the azz in her av, so all is good..

I have one, I rarely use a cell phone so it serves it's purpose for. If you don't use it much, it is fine. If you are going to us it alot, the prepaid minutes can go very quickly. And when I do use it, I always can get a decent signal no matter where I am. I live in Leonardtown, some of friends have Sprint and can never get a signal when they are at my house.
