There were a (very) few stores in the midwest, back when I was a kid, where you'd go in and give someone your list, and they'd get the stuff for you. Self serve grocery stores were the norm by then, but you could stumble across one of those old-timey places if you tried. Same with hardware stores. Once upon a time, though, giving the grocer your list was the norm, and not the rare exception.WM should have said that stores were closing due to poor bottom line figures from theft, if that indeed was the case. Let the people know the truth.
Not all the shoppers stole. But the closure will impact all of them 1 way or another.
Decades ago there was a store in NJ called Service Merchandise. They had 1 of each item on display. You got the item number then went to a counter where the retrieved the item from the back. This concept never caught on, especially at a grocery store. But I can see this happening with items like power tools & electronics. Heck, even the pen at the bank is chained to the desk. I despise that the many have to suffer for the few that take what doesn't belong to them.
And of course 1 of the videos had a person pulling the platinum race card because how dare WM not keep losing money in the hood. Maybe if cancel culture would cancel ghetto culture, you could have nice things close by to where you live.
This is really going inconvenience a lot of shoplifters.
So far this morning, I've seen closings in Portland, OR; Evil DC, and Chiraq, IL.
Fox Business ran a fleeting story late last week headlined, “Cracker Barrel Becomes Latest Company to Flee Portland Amid Rising Crime, Retail Theft.” The sub-headline added, “Walmart announced earlier this month it is closing all of its Portland, Oregon, locations.”
The politically-correct breakfast giant generally blamed the pandemic for its surprising decision that was effective immediately. A corporate statement explained, “[W]e are saddened that we have been unable to overcome the impact the pandemic had on our business and have made the difficult decision to close the Beaverton, Tualatin, and Bend locations on March 20. The decision to close a store is never one we take lightly, and our focus right now is in assisting our impacted employees during this transition.”
Another one bites woke Portland’s crime-ridden dust.
Fox Business asked Cracker Barrel to explain what EXACTLY about the pandemic forced closing the Portland restaurants, but corporate officials carefully declined to provide any specifics, saying only that the Portland stores were financially under-performing.
For some reason.
In recent months, Wal-Mart and Nike also shuttered their Portland locations after record shoplifting and petty crime. Not to mention dangerous environments for employees. So.
Eventually these rapidly-dissolving woke cities will need someone smarter or stronger to take over.

I agree, but this woman stated she wanted to actually PURCHASE food for her kids and not pillage the place. And her comment about fruits and vegetables were left made a point, too.The ferals don't deserve places to shop and they don't need any. It's very simple concept. Civilized people engage in legal commerce. Ferals engage in theft and mutual destruction. Simple as it gets. When they run out of places to pillage, they'll move farther out of their ghettos and encounter more resistance. The carnage will be a sight to behold.
Of course there are honest people that want a place to shop! I never meant to imply otherwise. But the fact is....they.do.not.matter. The ferals matter. Only the ferals. The ferals are the ones - the only ones - getting all the benefits of the relaxation of criminal laws and prosecution. So it's pretty darned obvious that the elected officials and law enforcement are more concerned with coddling the ferals than dealing with the pain and suffering the actions of the ferals cause any law-abiding citizens...few that they are.I agree, but this woman stated she wanted to actually PURCHASE food for her kids and not pillage the place. Agreed. The bad apples ruin it for all the others that want nothing to do with the riots. She sounded like a single mother that just wants to feed her kids. Then there are the elderly that don't have the means to travel out further for food and medications. It sucks for them.Of course there are honest people that want a place to shop!
