When I first moved here I thought I didn't like crab cakes because the first time I tried one it was this shredded mess of vaguely fishy fried mush. A friend talked me into having one at Stoney's and now I am a major crab cake snob and ask what they're made of before I'll order one.

I'm such a snob I will no longer eat a crab cake anywhere other than Jerry's.

Unless I get some good lump and make it at home.

I'd like to try their crab cakes but I've never made it past their crab pretzel. That thing is to die for! I mean to try something else but it's so good I just can't order anything else.

Ruddy Duck and Stoney's have a great crab cake. The one at Saphron is surprisingly good, although not a traditional crab cake like you see around here - it's more creamy and delicate, so you wouldn't dare douse it with cocktail sauce.

Cocktail sauce on any crab cake is sacrilege.

Saphron is on my list.

Berger Cookies

They are cookies that used to be found only in and around Baltimore. now you can get them all over.

I remember hearing about this but never tried them, so I was surprised to see them at the Weis store in Lexington Park and bought a 15 oz. package for $6.49. They are good and very rich, but honestly don't know why people rave over them nor why they are so expensive.

Anybody else ever try them?

I wouldn't buy a whole pack of them because one is more than enough. They had Berger cookies at some local festival - I'm trying to remember if it was in SoMD or Fredneck - and I had one. It was good but I'm not a cookie or cake person, so I wasn't dying to get another one.

If they had a single "try me" pack I would have been more than satisfied with that. They were like soft vanilla cookies slathered with a nondescript fudge. As it is, one and done so the rest will go to work. I am sure they will be devoured.

They sell a package with two cookies in it. Most of the Highs Stores sell Berger's.
Central Ave Highs has them.
