Traffic stop question

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

Not me, seen on X. Officer asks for ID. Citizen asks why he was pulled over. Officer says I'll tell you after you show me ID. I know in most states you must produce the ID no matter what, that's not the question.

Can anyone give me a good reason for the office to not only refuse to tell the citizen the offense, but just call back up and arrest the guy.

Keep in mind, the citizens was calm and rational. He just wanted to know what he was pulled over for.

Depends on Sheriff Office, Police Department, or State Police, policy. Sheriff's deputies around here, after approaching the driver, are trained to say, "I am Deputy [last name] with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's office. The reason I pulled you over is __________. Licence, registration and proof of insurance please."

So the question is answered before it is even asked.

And avoids crap like this from happening. Then if dirtbag decides to get froggy, they are doing it with nothing to fall back on.

He will get that anyway. As far as I know you are always required to show ID when driving. But in this case, it went from a traffic stop to a violent arrest simply because the guy wanted to know why.
You've lived in Maryland too long.

If the officer proceeds to ask you any questions, remember the stop and identify statute in Indiana. Per state law, you are required to provide either your name, address, and date of birth, or your driver's license.

Hence the "as far as I know".

Clearly you should have a fake ID for just this very reason.
