Power with Control
Damn, craziness. About say 730ish, near International Beverage. Heading eastbound, ahead of me, through traffic, I see a silver Mitsubishi Evo, passing half in the left lane, half in the center breakdown lane. "What kinda nut pulls a pass like that?" I think to myself. He didnt appear to be flying, or otherwise acting like a road rager, just passing illegally using the center lane.
So, after passing the two cars ahead of me, I come upon a small base model pickup, in the left lane. Who then proceeds to signal right as if he's coming over into my lane. So I slow from the 45 or so I was doing, figuring I'll go around him when I get a chance to use the left lane.
But no, he doesnt finish the lane change, he stops halfway through, now he is straddling both lanes, and he sticks his hand out the window, holding up four fingers, waving his hand like crazy, I think he was trying to tell me the speed limit there was 40.
That's nice, thanks for the memo. But no, he stays that way from the crest of the hill down to the golf cart/shed joint. where upon we come across the EVO, who has gotten in the right lane, and has slowed to 30. Pickup guy get back into the left lane, to pass the Evo, who slips back left to block the pickup.
I pull up in the right past the pickup, even up with the Evo, and match his 30mph for about 20 seconds, long enough for him to roll down his passenger window and give me a thumbs up, before I accelerated back up to to 40 or so. Events over at this point, but I was amazed, I have never seen anyone deliberately split lanes like that to set a speed. I did not see the beginning of the interaction between the Evo and the truck, but based on the truck just doing the same to me, with less than a 10mph difference between us, and the Evo drivers lack of rage, I tend to think the pickup guy was the problem there too.
