Trampolines are no place for kids, docs warn

Neither are playgrouds, jungle gyms, slides.. the spinny thingy.. swings taller than 5 feet.. climbing trees, hiking.. all TOO dangerous..

nanny state has almost eradicated ALL of the playground equipment we had, and have god knows how many regulations governing the building of new playgrounds.. (do you (general term) know that it costs more than $500,000 to build a new playground?). The mulch has to be a certain type, and to a certain thickness, to a certain distance away from the equipment, the border that holds in the mulch has to be a certain material, slides can only be a certain height...

Everything we did is absolutely TOO dangerous for today's bubble wrapped kids..

Saw Bubba and the neighborhood kids trying to climb one of our Cleveland Pear trees. I think most of us would yell at them to stop. I almost teared up I was so proud..

Trampolines are no place for kids, docs warn - Vitals

Trampolines are too dangerous for children to use, the American Academy of Pediatrics said Monday. Citing nearly 100,000 injuries in 2009, the academy issued the warning in a statement published in Pediatrics and noted that the safety nets added in recent years don’t make much of a difference.

Well, my Brother has one; his kids ALL jump around on it. The problems begin only when the 5-year-old wants to play on the trampoline with his big Brother and big Sisters. The older one's don't want to have to be careful of the little feller, so very quickly the screaming/crying starts; ie; 'but I wanna play too!'

I don't think trampolines are a place for anyone (except that adorable bulldog). I have heart palpitations when I am on one. They scare the shiz out of me.

This is why kids grow up to be whimps. They aren't allowed to fall or fail which would teach them life experiences and make them better grown ups.

not impressed
My nine month old fell twice today while trying to walk. Cut her lip with her tooth. I was proud of her.

NOt sure what it's like here, but many insurance companies specifically ask now if you have a trampoline and they won't cover you if you plan on having on (same with diving boards)

You've got to be kidding me. What the hell can kids do these days beside sit on their arse and play computer games. On one hand we have Michelle Obama saying our kids are obese due to lack of activity and junk food, on the other we have these doctors telling us we have to bubble wrap our kids before they go out to play. GIVE ME A BREAK!! When I was a youngster, many moons ago, we rode our bikes without helmets and pads, climbed trees, played softball, dodgeball, kickball. On summer days we had a real treat, about 8 of us would climb into the back of my uncles pickup truck, go to the beach and swim all day. We fell down, cut our hands, scraped our knees, got bruised up and banged up and guess what...I've made it to 57. Imagine that.

Along that similar though process; my 14 yr. old Niece got a laptop for her Birthday this past January. Since then, she has porked right up.
