Transitioning to "big girl" bed

Hi all,
Our toddler will be two in a couple of months and is about as tall as a two or three-year-old! (Yes, her mama is tall :) She's in her crib now and sleeps in one of those wonderful sleep sacks that Halo makes. My question is when did you transition your kiddo into thier big kid bed? How did you introduce sheets, pillow and a comforter? She's never used a blanket to sleep, and when I tried it once during naptime, she slept on top of it (since she didn't understand that the comforter was climbing under). Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks :howdy:

Mattress on the floor with a sheet and a sleeping bag, no need for a pillow.

It's been a while, but I think it was around 18 months or two years. We switched to a daybed once he proved he was able to climb out of the crib. No big "transition", I just put him in it and said, "Night-night!". We had a guardrail just in case and I think he fell out once but it was no biggie. I wouldn't worry about how she sleeps -- on top of the covers or not -- just that she sleeps, period. Good luck!

We moved my son to a big boy bed about the same age. We made a big happy deal over his new puppy printed sheets and pillow and let him keep his usual crib blankets too. He never fell out or made a fuss over it. I miss him being safely behind bars in the crib though, now when I wake up half the time I find him sleeping on the couch near the puppy's kennel. Unless she is climbing out or trying to I'd keep her in there long as possible, I hate that my two year old wakes up in the middle of the night and wanders around silently.

Put a baby gate in the doorway of her room. She/he won't be able to get out.

We tried that, he eventually figured out how to scramble over just like this. The kid climbs like a monkey and so far hasn't done much besides go lay on the couch or come get me. I don't worry as much now, the new place is 1 story and dosen't have a treacherous flight of hardwood stairs for him to bounce down.

When my daughter climbed out of her crib at 15 months, we put her on the floor with the crib mattress and lots of blankets - she too used a halo sleep sack and I switched her to a warm footed sleeper. I also added the babygate at the door to keep her safe in her room. Once she turned 2, she was too big for the crib mattress so we bought her a kid bed - it's a big sleigh bed, we added guard rails to both sides (she climb up at one end and onto the bed). She loved the transition - we didn't buy any special sheets - just used what we had, and she was happy with it. We also gave her a thin pillow. Overall it was no big deal and it's worked fine. We are getting ready to transition my son- and he too will get a bed with rails on it.

Good luck!
