Tranny in the 2002 sploder is having problems. Just like anyone else who owns a 2002. Anyway having AAMCO check it out. Any success/horror stories? Thing with trannys is no one gives an exact price til they get in there then you are already in bed with them if you don't like their price.

Also saw someone mention Gear Box??

But yeah, I've had good experience with AAMCO on 235. Chuck, the service manager, is a really good guy.

The Gear Box in Mechanicsville is a great shop. Not that this says anything about their skills (I'll leave that up to the fact that they are always busy), but they are very supportive of the local kids. A couple years ago, I was looking for sponsors for a race my Cub Scout Pack was putting on. Walked in and as soon as I said "sponsorship for my Cub Scout Pack", the woman immediately got out the checkbook and said "How much and to whom do I make it out?". I didn't even get to finish my pitch.

But seriously, their shop is always busy when I drive by.

Almost all transmission "repairs" today are done by replacing with a new or rebuilt trans at the point of service shop.

Do some price shopping and take a day or too to get good feedback on area shops. There used to a Transmission specialist shop in Waldorf but they have either relocated or closed since I last used them.

I highly recommend that you seek out the transmission specialist type of shop rather than the corner garage.

yeah I'm going to wait it out a few days.. need to get the car back to the house and think about it a little. We're not sure if we are going to fix and sell or fix and keep for the oldest daughter. Either way we want it done right. Would prefer if we sell to pass on the tranny warranty to the new owner.

The Gearbox in Mechanicsville is great! The guys are very knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend them to everyone, they have worked on a several of my family's vehicles and I have always been more than pleased with the work they do at the Gearbox. Price isn’t bad for the quality you get. The owner, Sean, has been working with transmissions for a long time and is absolutely wonderful.

Their number is 301-884-0155. Call and talk to Sean or Ron.

AAMCO Sucks! I bought my car there ~3 years ago due to get looked at, and within the next three months it blew up twice. They had rolled the tranny on the concrete at the shop and it "squished" the vent closed- causing pressure blowout to the seal. They are TERRIBLE- and I'm not the only one, a couple other friends have taken their trucks/cars there and similar stories. I will never ever again take a car to those crooks.

Also, a friend of mine took his to some place off airport rd or airport view drive-- whatever they did it worked and the price was very reasonable.. I forget the name of the place- its down the road that has the vet and near Beautiful Kitchens...

NEVER go to AAMCO or any other "transmission specialist" chain. They hire wrench turners that just throw parts in. Here is my 2 cents. Go to a reputable yard and get a low mileage tranny and have a reputable repair shop replace it. Most yards give you a limited warrantee with a used tranny. You might also go talk to Gary at Meineke in front of WALMART. They shoot straight.

Amcco sucks ! I took my car there 3 different times . Cost me 3k to rebuild the transmission . I had to take it back because it was coming up with gear malifunction. They rebuilt it again and did the same thing . But the told me since there was * rubber on the wheel well * that my warranty is up and they wouldnt support it again . So I called their corp. office and told them . They fixed it with a new transmission and then I sold the car because I was tired of dealing with it and all their b.s. ( This is the rt 235 one ) .. Good luck on whatever you choose .
