Tree Removal

I've had alot of family and friends come to me complaining they can not get anyone to help them with tree removal....if you can not find anyone else in the So. Maryland area to assist you, give me a call. We normally do excavating work, but due to the storm we have been helping with tree removal. If you have exhausted all the other local companies I'd be glad to give you a very reasonable estimate. Just IM.

They call me ... Sarcasmo
Most tree services are busy taking trees off homes still, they are not worried about cleaning yards yet.

Yep we couldn't get out our back door, but none were on the house. We were told that the trees on houses take priority to call back in about 3 weeks to get on a list for a estimate. I understood that completely.
I contacted a local excavating company and he had two to remove from houses and we would be next.
Came out same day to look at the damage and tomorrow we are going to be tree free! :yahoo: Whats cool about the big equipment, they can lift the massive trees & root balls off our fence, cut up and haul away. They are also going to fill my holes with top soil. I am so excited!

I can tell you for a fact that ALL the tree companies are VERY busy right now. We own a tree company and my husband hasn't had a day off yet since the storm. In all honest, he's been working very hard to take trees off houses first. Everyone has to understand that ALL the tree companies are doing the best they can and are working as quickly as they can to help the home owners.

All tree companies are very busy right now. The crew that was at my house today had already put in over 96 hours this week.
Some tree company's have also moved into the area and trying to take advantage of customers that do have trees on their homes or buildings. Heard of one instance today where they wanted to charge 6,000 to remove one tree from a house and that did not include cutting up the tree or removing it. I feel very sorry for those in dire need they are at the mercy of shysters.

But the OP brought up an excellent idea for using an excavating company. I had 9 uprooted and 4 leaners taken down and removed within two hours this morning. They filled the holes with top soil and as a bonus they even took out some old stumps that were around from Isabel. There was extra top soil and they used it to fill in low spots and level out our back driveway at no extra charge.
Now here is the best part, they charged me 500 dollars less than what they estimated. I can so recommend Larry Hills & Sons excavating company, not only are they honest but a very hard working crew that gave 100 percent.
So for what I paid averaged about 300 per tree and had bonus grading and leveling done. I am so happy with what they have done for us.

Absolutely Schysters.

A company that is NOT the OP's company quoted us almost $16,500.00 to remove three trees that went INTO (not on) our home. We contacted them because our state farm agent suggested we call this particular (unnamed) company. Then they backed the price down when they knew Insurance was paying for it. They backed that price wayyyy back.

That is crazy!

Regardless of who you choose, be very aware that if the people cutting your trees cause more damage while cutting those trees, your insurance will probably not cover it.

If they are just cutting up a downed tree, fine. If they are removing one from your house and a limb goes thru your window or takes down your chimney, the person doing the removal better have insurance to cover it.

Info from a co-worker who was talking with her agent about this very issue.

I agree with the above post. Make sure your contractor is insured for that type of work. You don't want John Doe Contracting cutting down a tree and having it fall through your kitchen only to find out they are not insured.

Our home is already deemed uninhabitable due to the damage the trees caused. Our whole lot is "fubar" with the trees gone, big blops where the trees used to be.... Pretty sure Insurance covered it. The trees are gone, and we sure don't have any amount close to the two quotes they provided to the insurance company to remove the trees.

But we sure do have a nice sky light in several parts of our house now, courtesy of those trees! LoL.

If I don't laugh I will cry. GAH.

I think what this group is doing is wonderful and nice, but I ask you, do they have insurance and are they licensed to do tree work? What happens if the "unthinkable" happens and they end up hurting themselves or cause more damage? Right now (some) tree companies are not out to "screw" people over, they just want to give people a wonderful job and good service. The "companies" that take advantage of people make the tree companies that ARE licensed and have insurance a bad name.
Please, when a tree company comes to look at your work, PLEASE make sure they ARE licensed AND have insurance. The insuance not only protects the company, but the home owner as well incase something should go wrong.

IMHO, people who are being abused by local companies trying to cash in on the disaster should post the names of the companies online so they can be shunned now and in the future. If they're going to take advantage of you in time of disaster, you can bet they'll do the same in fair weather.

If you can't afford a tree company please contact Leonardtown Baptist Church. They are the contact for the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team that has come to the area. They will remove trees and cut up trees.

Wow you sure do promote Southern Style Builders a lot  I was trying to find your last post where you stated that they teamed up with a tree company and they would take care of the homeowners insurance deductible. Did you change or delete it?
