My mother lives in Topeka and plays organ/piano at a Baptist Church. The local churches pretty much view the Phelps clan as a joke.

these guys are a bunch of clowns. The military and gays have nothing to do with one another. IF anything, the church should be prtesting the democratic party!!!

On a side note, the guys that help provide security at the funerals FOR the military and their families are awesome!! There is one group that I know of called the Patriot Guard riders. I had the chance to meet some of them last week when my dads unit got back from Iraq (they provided "security" and one hell of a show for the waiting families). These guys are sincerely grateful for the chances they are given to represent the fallen, and the ones lucky enough to make it home. If you have a few minutes, look them up online @ Patriot Guard Riders -->Home. These guys are awesome!!!

They try to say that when one of our soldiers dies in battle, it is because we're allowing homosexuality in our society and that because of this God is no longer by our side. They go to funerals of random soldiers and hold up signs such as "God Hates F*gs" just to prove their "point". Bunch of nasty jerks! No respect for the families of the dead at all.

The best thing that could happen is that all the male Phelps were placed in general population in a prison with Big Bubba who needs a new "girlfriend".

I had the honor of participating with the Patriot Guard riders at the funeral of a young man from the area who gave his life in the service of our county.

I understand what they are saying, to me one doesn't have anything to do with the other. If they want to protest gays, go to San Fransciso, or New York, or Vegas where the gay lifestyle is openly accepted. Protesting the military isn't going to do anything to halt the acceptance or coming out of gays. (Not that I'm saying we should halt the acceptance of gays, just trying to make a point)
