Trick or Treating

6 or so is customary. People are still eating at 5 and it's still light out.

I figured about 6, too! When it starts getting darker and people are likely done with dinner.

I'm kinda nervous that I have to sit with all the lights out and can't give candy out! Guess I'll be sure to have hubby take the pumpkins off the steps!

Yea I usually wait until it is dark out. I hate going out before that. But I have seen some out where my sister lives as soon as 5 or 5:30 I am thinking.

I remember driving home from DC - and I used to get off at 3:00 then - seeing the college kids dressed up walking from embassy to embassy at 3:30!! I don't mind the little ones coming early - it is a little warmer and they have earlier bed times!!

I don't care what time they are coming over, but if they get there before I get home, they're not getting any candy.

If they are all on the same road as you I figure it would be easier. I am looking for something to do with them so that they can get some candy, but not so sure with how cold it is getting that I want them to be out long. So I figured if I could find a place to take them to that a lot of houses are close together so that we dont have to walk a long way and they can get some quick and then come back home. Or something like that. I know when I was young my mom would take me to Wildwood because all of the stores would have someone outside handing out candy, do they still do that?

I believe Wildewood still hands out candy but they don't do the hay ride and costume contest anymore. I am going to take my kids there and maybe another place depending on time and them. Petruzzis is having a dinner buffet and games for the kids so we will probably go a little early and start there and then trick or treat.

Do they have a web site?

I take my kids to Leonardtown Baptist Church. They do a fall festival. They have games and usually a small hayride. The kids get tons of candy, probably more than they would get going to a neighborhood, and have fun. They ask that the kids dress up in wholesome costumes - no blood and guts and monster type things. I know up in Mechanicsville a church does a parking lot festival where kids go around to cars and play games. Not sure where that is.

The "Trunk or Treat" is at Living Word Community Church in Mechanicsville (the corner of Rt 5 and Harpers Corner Rd) from 7:00-8:30 on Friday night. They have games, costume contests and of course candy.:starcat:

The Wildwood stores handed out candy last year. We plan on going again this year and then we normally follow it up by going to the church of Nazarane (sp?). Its the church on Sotterly Road I believe. They always have fun things for the kids and more candy.

Its pretty much for the people that are camping that weekend.
thats why it fills so quickley.
I know that Yankee, Clevalley and I are already booked for next year just to make sure we get in.

I would have never guessed they did this stuff if not for Yankee (thanks again)'
campers all decked out, haunted house, pumpking decorating contests for the kids, hay rides etc...

I take my kids to my parents neighborhood for trick or treating. Its alot safer there and people dont drive like dummies. I know the people there most of them I babysat there kids, so I feel a bit safer with them going house to house. My kids are 10 and 8, they dont like staying out very long at all. They would rather be with me passing the candy out.

I'm mean and don't give my kids much candy so Halloween is mainly about dressing up to them. I can get away with it now because they are still so young.

My kids aren't big candy eaters either. I take most of the stuff they get and give it to co-workers. The kids thinks it's fun to walk around and show all the neighbors their costumes. Most of the time they forget to get the candy. I am glad it's on a Friday this year so we have more time to walk around. The kids and I go to bed at 8pm during the week so we're always rushed. This year, we'll go later when more people are home and take our time.
