Trim Carpenter position

I am looking for some help for my husband. He hasn't been working for months now and the money in the savings is getting really low. He needs to find a job. He was a subcontractor for a builder but that project is finished. He is a trim carpenter; also does installing of cabinets, vanieties, and rails. Been doing trim work for over 20 years. I was wondering if there are any builders on here that might need a trim carpenter. I've emailed a number of builders but don't get any responses. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I know I'm going to get in trouble for this... but I have to ask - Why your husband isn't doing this?

He doesn't do the internet. He has been looking at classified ads in newspapers and asking around in person. I just figured I would try to see if I could find leads on here.

My husband isn't computer savvy either. I'd be the one doing it for him if we were in the same situation.

Those of us who use the computer daily find it hard to believe there are folks that don't even do e-mail, but there are...:yay:

The entire blue collar industry seems to have taken a big blow this fiscal year. It's the worse we've seen since we started business back in '94. All you can do is continue to "network" and hopefully you'll find something soon. Good luck!

You probably wont find much looking on the internet for carpenter jobs. My hubby used to be a trim carp. Your hubby needs to get off his lazy butt and hit the job sites. If he does that, I can almost gaurantee hell come home with a job. Start at Millisons. If your a carpenter in so. md., jobs aren plenty. Dont listen to any of his excuses.

Sounds like my uncle, "I've got 16 computers in the office and I don't even know how to turn one of them on."

Construction isn't booming around here like it was a year ago Dorthy. I know a few guys that are VERY good at what they did and now they can't find work.

He should try the Commercial Builders. If he's sober and if he's good, he might be able to snag something.

I hate to say this... but maybe he should find out where the mexicans are hanging out... and what time the people show up... maybe he could steal a job from a Mexican....

I was laid off by a developer too.... I put my resume on SOMD Online and on Craig's list.... that might help too...

Can't never tell... Unemployment benefits pay about a buck an hour more than Walmart tho....

Oh... I saw an ad somewhere [might have been Washington Post online] for someone to put together stuff.... like bikes and lawnmowers and sheds ... my hubby did that for a while... He actually liked it...

If you're white and speak English, the construction jobs are getting scarce. The illegal immigrants have risen from day labor to become foreman on the job.
They only hire other illegals.

That's why Joe Sixpack is still the contractor. He's the point of sale and contact with the customer. If you have a problem at a store, do you scream at a minimum wage clerk or ask for a manager?
Several of my friends that have worked construction in this area for years are being turned away only to see Jose get hired before they leave.

What Joe doesn't realize is that while hiring the illegals will maximize his profit today, tomorrow illegals will be starting their own contracting businesses.

Well now is the time for Joe Sixpack to figure out how to work the system and get his share back.

I'm not saying to start the whole illegal stuff again... we've got plenty of places to argue that after Joe gets his job and can support his family....

If Jose is running the job... maybe Joe needs to be the estimator, purchases, or maybe Joe needs to run the store so Jose still has to give him his cut....

Hey... guess I should say... my family was Irish Americans... came here in the late 1600's and we had to butt our way into the economy... I'm sure there's some Italian Americans that did the same.... we have to figure out how to make the Mexicans pay their dues like we did....

Joe still needs the job... or he needs a promotion!

I don't know about illegals per se, but I do know that Hispanics work damn hard, do good work, work longer hours, and don't often price gouge; whereas, Joe six-pack wants banker hours, generally speaking does piss poor work, and for a larger fee. If I were a business man I'd hire the Hispanics.

I don't have one drop of Hispanic blood in me, but I've been familiar with the contruction business for years and I call it how I see it.
