The thieves stealing them are no worse than the scrapyard who accepts them and pays for them.

If they couldnt sell them they wouldnt steal them.

The scrapyard should turn them over to the police when they come in with this bronze.

From Channel 4 web aite:

WALDORF, Md. -- More than 100 vases were stolen from gravesites at the Trinity Memorial Gardens, Charles County police said.

According to police, the thefts occurred on Sept. 21 and Sept. 24. They said the thieves entered the Memorial Gardens on Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf and stole bronze vases that had been attached to headstones.

Police said they have received information concerning similar incidents in other areas. They said the motive for the theft could be resale of the vases as scrap metal.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office asked businesses that deal in scrap metal to contact them with information about anyone who attempts to sell the vases.

The cemetery's management said steps are being taken to prevent more thefts.

"We're very shocked and dismayed as an organization, and we feel that the community as well has been traumatized as we have been," said cemetery manager Ronald Abbit.

Those with loved ones and friends buried at the cemetery told News4 they are very upset by the crimes.

"That's disgusting," said Tricia Hunt, who has a friend buried at the cemetery. "These poor old people, you know, they're laid to rest and someone does that to them."

Betty Harvey said she believes the chain attaching an ornate bronze vase to her nephew's gravestone was broken by a thief who was interrupted before stealing the vase.

"You know it's sad for real because I come out here all the time and I've noticed the chains being broken but I never heard about nobody going through the gravesite stealing," she said.

Charles County Crime Solvers offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information should call 866-411-TIPS. All callers may remain anonymous.

Unfortunately this crap goes on all over the place anymore. Sick people that live off of others and live by taking from others. This is not the world I grew up in. It didn't used to be this way and you can form your own opinions as to why the world is the way it is today - just don't blame it on the older generation! I could be buried in any Vet cemetary but I'm being cremated and my ashes strewn into the Zekiah Swamp and I dare any to try and pick up my remains for any profit.

Most of the thefts occurred in "The Garden of Life" which is in the back section of the cemetery but the manager is currently in the process of doing an inventory and check of the entire grounds and compiling a list. My husband heard about it and wanted to check my mom’s and sister’s grave on the way home from work last night around 11:00 p.m. but the press presence was overwhelming at the entrance.

The number over there is (301) 932-8900 (301) 843-2651 (301) 274-9564 but be warned, they are swamped with calls.

Very Sad....I have many friends and family laid to rest there. However, the owners and management at Trinity are terrible for the past few years. All they think of is the almighty dollar. And the managers are just terrible, they have had a few since one of our own forum members worked there as General Manager,He worked there to help as he had another business.Nothing like that would happen under his supervision,as he was respected, and even those people would realize if they did something to the grave sites,He would take it extremly personal ,so they stayed away.Days after he left some 3-4 years ago,They changed for the worse.I say if they wish to make things right from the cemetery side, they should be on the phone begging for him to come back. And BTW ,it is James White who was the General Manager that was so kind and respected.I say people should call the cemetery and beg them to try to Bring Back James White today!!Not sure if he would go back, but I think he may if it was worth his time,As he connected with every family and friend that has a person buried there inb his time there, and didnt take crap from anyone.

Call NOW and tell them to bring back James White NOW !!!!! I know I am calling now.

What Pandora has said about the location is correct, its the section up on the hill to the far right.
When my wife heard about it yesterday afternoon she called Trinity to check on her brothers grave the person who took her call (a guy) was very helpful, took her info and said he would call back, he did say he was getting alot of calls so it might take a while, he called her back in 30 minutes and said he went out and actually checked the grave all was ok.
I came past at about 10:40pm last night not knowing about the thefts and saw alot of trucks in the the cemetary and thought something was wierd about that. Wife called on cellphone 5 minutes later and said did you here about Trinity and told me what was going on.

The solution is simple. Put out a notice to ALL pawn shops & metal recycling shops that if anyone comes in with these bronze items, call the cops. The crooks might have to be detained for an hour though until they show up.
